COVID-19 rebound after low numbers, most cases in Zhanjiang
Over the 24-hour period leading up to midnight last night, Guangdong reported 37 local symptomatic cases and six local asymptomatic cases.
Most of the symptomatic cases were found in the city of Zhanjiang, a holiday destination city that faces the Hainan city of Haikou to the south.
Over the same period, 28 non-mainland acquired cases were found throughout the province, and two cases previously classified as asymptomatic have been re-classed as symptomatic.
Twenty-two patients with COVID-19 were discharged from hospitals, leaving 268 still hospitalized in Guangdong. Meanwhile, 135 remain under medical observation.
New guidelines for arrivals from Macao
Also, from August 7, all people entering Guangdong from Macao will need to comply with new testing requirements, with the tests to be self-funded. In addition to this, upon arrival in the mainland, their first COVID-19 test cannot be taken at community-level testing sites.
Family in Panyu tests positive after trip to Hainan
A family of four has tested positive for COVID-19 after returning to Guangzhou’s Panyu District from Hainan.
The cases were found in a 39-year-old male, a 38-year-old female, a 65-year-old male, and a 72-year-old male.
They returned to Guangzhou from Hainan on August 6, and tested positive for the virus on August 7.
They have been transferred to the Eighth Affiliated Hospital of the Guangzhou Medical University for isolated treatment.
A fifth positive case in Panyu was also identified in a 21-year-old male who returned to Panyu from outside of the province on August 5.
Contact tracing for all five people is underway, and disinfection work is being carried out at venues they visited since their return. PCR testing is also being carried out for close contacts and people of concern.
80,000 tourists trapped in Sanya following lockdown
The Hainan city of Sanya is under lockdown after hundreds of the more contagious Omicron BA.5 variant were identified.
Over the 24 hours leading up to midnight on August 7, 186 new local symptomatic cases were recorded there, while 227 asymptomatic cases were found.
Currently, there are 801 active cases in the city. Flights in and out of the city have mostly been cancelled, and those wishing to return to other parts of China, including Guangdong, will need to be tested for COVID-19 five times over a seven day period and test negative.
