美国 “抗疫名片”福奇博士：坚实证据表明 新冠病毒并非来自中国实验室

在专访中，福奇再次否认了“新冠病毒是人为制造”的阴谋论。他说，观察病毒在蝙蝠和其它动物身上的进化过程就会发现，新冠病毒是自然进化的结果。美国《新闻周刊》评论称，福奇此番表态驳斥了特朗普和蓬佩奥有关“新冠源于武汉实验室”的言论。
当前，特朗普宣布“重启美国”计划，敦促各州尽快恢复经济。福奇在采访时说，他目前最担心的是，如果不能在夏天之前降低感染率，今年秋冬，美国将受到第二波新冠病毒疫情的冲击。
福奇强调，在各州的病例开始下降前，必须保持社交距离。他说，美国在4月每天目睹约20000至30000新病例，这表明该国处于高峰期。

Anthony “Tony” Fauci has become the scientific face of America’s COVID-19 response, and he says the best evidence shows the virus behind the pandemic was not made in a lab in China.

Fauci, the director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, shot down the discussion that has been raging among politicians and pundits, calling it “a circular argument” in a conversation Monday with National Geographic.
美国国家过敏症和传染病研究所所长福奇周一在接受《国家地理》杂志采访时驳斥了近来一些美国政客与权威人士之间关于病毒起源的争吵，并称之为“循环争论”。
“If you look at the evolution of the virus in bats and what's out there now, [the scientific evidence] is very, very strongly leaning toward this could not have been artificially or deliberately manipulated … Everything about the stepwise evolution over time strongly indicates that [this virus] evolved in nature and then jumped species,” Fauci says.
“只要观察病毒在蝙蝠和其它动物身上的进化过程就会发现，（科学证据）极其强烈地倾向于表明它（COVID-19）不可能是人为制造或故意操纵的结果……这种逐步进化的现象有力证明了（此病毒）是自然进化而来、并跨越了物种界限。”福奇指出。
Based on the scientific evidence, he also doesn’t entertain an alternate theory—that someone found the coronavirus in the wild, brought it to a lab, and then it accidentally escaped.
他同时还基于科学依据否认了另一种说法，即“有人在野外发现病毒并带回实验室后发生了意外泄露”。

One topic in the news lately has been the origins of SAR-CoV-2. Do you believe or is there evidence that the virus was made in the lab in China or accidentally released from a lab in China?
国家地理：近来一个热点话题就是此次新冠病毒的起源。您是否相信、或是否有证据表明这种病毒是由中国的某间实验室制造或泄露出来的？
If you look at the evolution of the virus in bats, and what's out there now is very, very strongly leaning toward this [virus] could not have been artificially or deliberately manipulated—the way the mutations have naturally evolved. A number of very qualified evolutionary biologists have said that everything about the stepwise evolution over time strongly indicates that it evolved in nature and then jumped species.
福奇：“只要观察病毒在蝙蝠和其它动物身上的进化过程就会发现，科学证据极其强烈地倾向于表明它（病毒）不可能是人为制造或故意操纵基因突变的结果。许多资深的进化生物学家已经明确指出，该病毒是自然进化而来的，且跨越了物种界限。”
Sure, but what if scientists found the virus outside the lab, brought it back, and then it escaped?
国家地理：好吧，那如果是有科学家在实验室外发现了这种病毒，然后带回了实验室，却导致了泄露呢？
But that means it was in the wild to begin with. That's why I don't get what they're talking about [and] why I don't spend a lot of time going in on this circular argument.
福奇：上述说法即便成立，前提也是“病毒来源于大自然而非实验室”，这就是为啥我不明白那些人为何要陷入这种无意义的“循环争论”之中。我本人反正是不会浪费太多时间在这上头的。
