Is growth hitting bottom? Duty-free giant CDF returns to an upward trend

Financial data showed that in 2023, CDF achieved operating income of 67.54 billion RMB, with a year-on-year increase of 24.08%, and a net profit of 6.714 billion RMB, with a year-on-year increase of 33.46%.
Dr Samuel Kwok from International Business School Suzhou at XJTLU commented in an interview with 21st Century Business Herald on 29 March: “Although sales performance has improved, gross profit margin and net profit margin are not outstanding.” He said he believes that CDF should strengthen its management capabilities in 2024 and increase the gross profit margin to over 40%. With the recovery of the inbound and outbound market, the revitalisation of the Chinese economy, and the stabilisation of the exchange rate, Dr Guo is optimistic about CDF’s performance this year, stating, “The high dividend payout also shows CDF’s confidence in the coming year”.
