Happy Women’s Day!
March 8th is a day when everyone around the world unites to celebrate women’s achievements and address issues and barriers which affect them from achieving their goals and advancing in their careers. This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is “Embrace Equity.” With the aim to ensure equal opportunities for all women, what actions are you taking to embrace equity and create a more inclusive world?
First, it is important to differentiate equity from equality. Equality means every individual or group of people is given the same resources and opportunities, regardless of their circumstances. However, we are all unique and most people have different starting points or situations. As such, to embrace equity, we must provide resources and opportunities according to the different needs of the person for them to achieve their full potential.
According to the 2022 Global Gender Gap Report, it will take us another 132 years to close the global gender gap. The global gender gap was 68.1%, a slight improvement from 2021. We know we have a long journey ahead, and there is still so much more we need to do to drive impactful change and create a better future for the next generations.
