cheers 的第一个意思是 a word that people say to each other as they lift up their glasses to drink,即“干杯”。
I’d like to toast a cheers for your health.
Cheers then. See you later.
There are many kinds of cheese and French and Italian cheeses are famous.
big cheese 具有 an important or powerful person in a group or organization的意思,即“重要人物”、“大人物”或“大腕”。例如:
His father is a big cheese in the bank.
Mac is a big cheese in the tennis world / in tennis.
macaroni cheese (英) 或 macaroni and cheese (美)的意思是 a hot dish of macaroni in a cheese sauce,即“干酪酱通心面”,是西方人爱吃的食品。因而 one’s macaroni in a cheese 具有“心爱的人”的比喻意义。例如:
Macaroni and cheese is a favorite comfort food at family dinner in our household.
You are my macaroni in a cheese.
其比喻意义是 completely different from each other,即“截然不同”。例如:
Although Jack and Dick are brothers, they are as different as chalk and cheese.
An apple-pie without some cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze.
A meal without cheese is a beautiful girl with only one eye.
A man, like a mouse, can be caught with good cheese.
It is an old rat that won't eat cheese.
美国作家 Dr. Spencer Johnson (斯宾塞•约翰逊) 写了一本名为 Who Moved My Cheese?
Who Moved My Cheese? is a simple parable that reveals profound truths. It is an amusing and enlightening story of four characters who live in a maze and look for cheese to nourish them and make them happy. Cheese is a metaphor for what you want to have in life - whether it is a good job, a loving relationship, money or a possession, health or spiritual peace of mind. And the maze is where you look for what you want - the organization you work in, or the family or community you live in.
