Minimally Invasive Hip Replacement Surgery Now Available at BJU
On Saturday, June 3 at Beijing United Family Hospital, Australian orthopedic surgeon Dr. Sol Qurashi (pictured above) introduced the innovative SuperPATH® arthroplasty technique for hip replacement surgery to BJU's Department of Orthopedics. The operation, performed on a 44-year-old German national, was a success, and the patient is already able to walk around and perform simple movements like bending down.
The event was live-streamed from an operating theater at Beijing United Family Hospital, and a seminar was held concurrently where medical experts explained the process to viewers.
Former volleyball star, current volleyball coach, and Chinese national treasure, Ping Lang (pictured above), also attended the seminar in order to share her recent experience with hip replacement surgery. If you missed the live broadcast, you can watch the whole thing in the video below.

SuperPATH® arthroplasty is performed through an 6-8cm incision between the muscles in the hip. Because no muscles or tendons are severed, as they are during a traditional hip replacement surgery, the recovery time is significantly reduced, and patients are able to return to their normal lives in as little as two weeks.
