Great Health Apps for Women

Anitra Williams BeijingUnitedFamilyHospital 2020-02-28

Keeping healthy is a full-time job. It involves being aware of your body, keeping it in good shape, and knowing when to check in with your doctor.

In order to help you keep track of all the important elements of your health, we’ve put together a list of apps that women may find helpful for staying on top of their health needs.

Monitor your regular health checks with My Medical

Traveling the world and experiencing exciting places like China is a great way to live, but it can get in the way of creating consistent medical records with one health provider. Don’t let your globetrotting tendencies interfere with your health and keep your medical info and schedule on your phone.

With My Medical ($4.99), you can maintain a log of doctor’s appointments, test results, and medications, which can be useful when you see a new doctor. The app can also access your phone’s calendar to help remind you to get regular scans like pap smears and mammograms.

Track your period with Clue

There are a ton of reasons to be on top of your menstrual cycle. Knowing when to expect ovulation, bleeding, and PMS means that you can plan your baby-making activities, know when to avoid wearing white pants, and keep track of when you might be too grouchy to hang out with your mother-in-law.

Promising a tracking experience free of flowers, butterflies, euphemisms, and pink, Clue Period Tracker (free) gets right down to business. With its elegant and easy-to-use interface, you can track your cycle by inputting how heavy your flow was, the degree of cramps you experienced, and your mood. It will calculate your future cycles, and gets more accurate each time you input your info.

Schedule your breast exams with Breast Check Now

Regularly checking your breasts for irregularities can help you get a sense of what’s normal for you, which means you’ll be better equipped to spot any potentially dangerous lumps before they become anything serious.

The main function of Breast Check Now (free) is to remind you to do your breast exams regularly by getting you to link it with another scheduled activity, like a gym class. There are also tutorials on how to do the checks yourself, complete with videos and illustrations.

Eat right with MyFitnessPal

We all know that it's important to eat well. But if you don’t keep track of what you’re eating, it can be hard to make positive changes. If you’re not sure how healthy your favorite foods are, input them into the Calorie Counter & Fitness Tracker app (free), which was developed by MyFitnessPal, and see how they measure up.

You can use the app as a calorie tracker if you are trying to lose weight, but you can also use it simply to check the nutrition value of your meals. Input what you ate manually, or scan the barcode on your pre-packaged food. With their database of over 5 million foods, you might just find what you're looking for.

Work out with Nike+ Training Club

Exercising regularly is important for our health, but it’s still not very common in China for women to work out. NTC (free) helps inspire you to break the mold by creating workouts you can do at home, many of them demonstrated by women.

Choose a goal for your workout, select a difficulty level, and let NTC put together an easy-to-follow routine with videos of each move. The app features exclusive workouts demonstrated by inspirational female athletes like Serena Williams and Alex Morgan.
