双语说节气 | 大暑

大暑是中国传统二十四节气之一，在每年7月22-24日之间，太阳位于黄经120°。大暑时节，中国绝大部分地区进入了一年中最热的时段。

Da Shu，the “Great Heat”，is one of the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms. It arrives on 22nd - 24th July when the sun reaches the celestial longitude of 120 degree. During Major Heat, most parts of China enter the hottest period of the year.

和小暑节气一样，大暑期间也时常发生洪水、干旱和台风等自然灾害。因此，抓紧时间进行收获和播种，从而规避自然灾害造成的损失，是十分重要的。

Like Minor Heat, many natural calamities such as floods, droughts and typhoons also happen during Major Heat. Therefore, it’s important to harvest and plant in time to avoid setbacks caused by natural disasters.

这个季节是气温最高的时候，作物生长速度最快，干旱最频繁。大暑以后，萤火虫开始出现，泥土变得越来越湿润，时不时会迎来雷雨天气。“大暑”期间也是茉莉和荷花开放的时节。

It’s a season with the highest temperature,  and also it is the most frequent time for drought. After this day, firefly comes out; soil gets more and more humid and heavy thunderstorm comes from time to time. The days around the “Major Heat” witness the blossom season of jasmines and lotuses.

枝

荔枝是一种营养丰富的水果，富含葡萄糖和维生素；人们经常将荔枝浸泡在冰凉的井水后食用。据说大暑期间的荔枝，营养价值堪比人参。

Litchi is a nutritious fruit containing glucose and vitamins. People usually soak litchi in cold well water first and eat it. It is said that litchi during Major Heat is as nourishing as ginseng.

梨

台湾地区有吃凤梨的习俗，百姓认为这个时节的凤梨最好吃。加上凤梨的闽南语发音和“旺来”相同，所以也被用来作为祈求平安吉祥、生意兴隆的象征。

There is a custom of eating pineapples in Taiwan. People think that pineapples are the most delicious in this season. In addition, pineapple has the same Minnan pronunciation as "Wanglai", so it is also used as a symbol of praying for peace and prosperity.

山东不少地区有在大暑到来这一天“喝暑羊”（即喝羊肉汤）的习俗。

In many areas of Shandong Province, there is a custom of "drinking summer sheep" (drinking mutton soup) on the arrival of the Major Heat.

蟀

蟋蟀，古称“促织”，《诗经·七月》中描述蟋蟀“七月在野”。大暑是乡村田野蟋蟀最多的季节，中国有些地区的人们茶余饭后有以斗蟋蟀为乐的风俗。 

The Major Heat is the season with the most crickets in the countryside. People in some areas of China have the custom of fighting crickets as pastime.

三伏天出现在小暑和大暑之间，是一年中气温最高并且潮湿、闷热的日子。从古代起，人们就有了很多三伏天避暑消夏的活动。在1998年，太平洋的厄尔尼诺事件引发了一段创纪录的高温时期。三伏天连续高温，外出要做好防晒措施，以防中暑，同时也要及时补充水分。

The dog days fall between Slight Heat and Major Heat. They are humid and sultry days with the highest temperature of the year. From ancient times, people developed many activities to escape the heat of Dog Days. In 1998, an El Nino episode in the Pacific Ocean set off a record-setting hot spell. It is hot in the dog days of summer, so we should take good measures to prevent sunstroke and replenish water in time.

在夏季，当你在正午的太阳下漫步于木板路上时，最好撑一把太阳伞。这么热的天，记得避暑哦!

In summer when you stroll on the boardwalk in the noonday sun, it is advisable to take along a parasol. Such a hot day, don't forget to prevent sunstroke!
