Reaching Out To Expats in China
Hello to all our WeChat Official Account Followers,
As I’m sure you’ve noticed our WeChat official account has been getting more interaction from Expats over the last year or so - some negative, a few trolls on the comments, but generally it has all been very positive. A lot of people have reached out to us and one of the more consistent requests has simply been for “more”. More help, more advice, more guidance, more hints and tips but all related to trying to make things just that little bit easier when starting an expat life in China.
Having the opportunity to save time, energy, money and of course stress by having quick answers and painless solutions to challenges in China can make a big difference. But trying to do this on a WeChat official account is challenging. Having to scroll through hundreds of articles to find one single point on one single subject could be more time consuming than just winging it. This is where WeChat groups can be more responsive and effective. Which is why we have decided to start an ExpatGuides WeChat group.
Sure, we know this idea is not new and many different "organisations" have tried to do the whole "let's help the new folks with advice from more experienced expats" type thing, but it rarely works for more than a few months before those groups turn into either troll fighting forums or spammers groups. One single person can’t run a 500 person group and of course one person can’t constantly field the questions of hundreds of expats that need a bit of help.
This is why we want to do things a bit differently. With a team of our friends, partners and sponsors who are all experienced expats. With everyone chipping in a few hours a week, we think we can make this work. We have a team. All we need now are people that want to be a part of it.
Initially we will have a Guangdong focus, but we would hope to be able to expand this to new cities, as our team of friends, partners and sponsors grows.
So, if you’re new to China, this could be right up your proverbial street. Or, if you’re outside of Guangdong and would like to be involved in creating similar forums for other provinces of cities, why don't you get in touch with the QR code below.
