Recently,a cleaner by the name of Chen Liyan has made the headlines for her generous andhonest act. The 45-year-old Chen was sweeping the floor at Taiyuan RailwayStation early Last Tuesday morning when she found a small plastic bag near achair and discovered 100, 000 yuan inside. Chen was shocked but she was determinedto return the money to its owner.

Wheninterviewed by the local paper yesterday, Chen said, “I would have felt bad ifI had kept the money. After all, the owner might have needed it badly.”

Whileworking, Chen watched carefully for anyone who might have been the owner. Shewaited for over two hours, but having no luck, she went to the nearest policestation to turn the money in. There, it was finally returned to its owner, WangZheng.

Wangthanked Chen repeatedly and apologised for the inconvenience, even offering her5,000 yuan as a reward. To his surprise, however, Chen refused, believing thatit would be wrong to accept money that she had not earned.

Butwhat is even more surprising, perhaps, is that Chen s daughter, 16-year-old LiuXia is currently seriously ill. Chen had already spent the last of her savingson the ongoing treatments and has also taken out a large loan.

Fortunately,Ma Dongbao, who works at the police station, stepped in. Living in the sameapartment building as Chen’s family, Ma was well aware of Chen’s difficulties.When Wang was told about Chen's situation, he decided to set up a fundraisingwebsite to pay for Liu's hospital bills.

ChenLiyan’s example shows a different way of thinking about money. Money isimportant, but to people like Chen, it definitely isn't everything.  And that’s a great attitude to take.

Henry：Can I have some ham and eggs, and a nice big juicysteak with all the trimmings? And make it extra thick.

Horace: It’dcost a tidy bit.

Henry: That’sunderstood. And a long, cool tankard of ale. ［After finishing what he ordered］Uh,waiter. Same thing again, please.

Horace: Again?

Henry:That’s right. And fill that up. Anything wrong?

Horace: No.No, sir. ［He goes tothe owner］He’s asked for another portion. Ale and all.

Owner:You think he can pay?

Maggie:We’ll have to chance it.

Owner: Servehim, Horace. But don't spare the gristle!

Horace:Ham, eggs, steak, potatoes, beans, carrots, twice, trifle, cheese, coffee, twoquarts of ale… three and ten pence.

Henry: Thankyou. Would you mind waiting just a few minutes?

Horace: What'sthere to wait for?

Owner:Alright, Horace.

Henry:That was a wonderfulmeal. You know, uh, it's amazing how much pleasure you get outofthe simple things if you have to get along without them for a while.

Owner:Very interesting. Andnow perhaps if you’d pay the bill I could attend to the other customers.

Henry: Thatclock of yours, is it correct?

Owner: Ifanything, it's fast

Henry:  ［Tohimself］Oh,it's fast.［To owner/］How fast?

Old man: Twominutes.

Henry: Oh,thank you.

Owner: NowI don’t wish to be unpleasant, but would you please settle the bill?

Henry: Iwant to, but you see …

Owner: Thebill, please

Henry: Yes,I know. The bill.

owner: Exactly

Henry: Well,I don’t suppose a couple of minutes will make any difference. ［After opening the envelope.］I, I'm awfully sorry but... I don’t have anything smaller.

Owner: ［Aftergetting the bank note from Henry.］Well,uh, uh, just one moment. ［He shows the note to his wife］Maggie,look!

Maggie:Ah!

Owner:Do you think It's real?

Maggie:Ask Mr. Clemens.

Owner: Mr.Clemens, Mr. Clemens!

Mr. Clemens:What is it?

Owner:  Would you mind just looking at this? Do youthink it's genuine?

Mr. Clemens:Two notes of this denomination have been issued. But in any case, it's hardlylikely to be a forgery.

Maggie: Whynot?

Mr. Clemens:It would draw too much attention to the owner. No forger would want that.

Maggie: Butlook at the owner, Mr. Clemens, He’s in rags.

Mr. Clemens:I can only assume he’s an eccentric millionaire.

owner: Aneccentric millionaire!

Maggie:And you put him at the back of the room! Go and attend to him at once!

owner:  I’m sorry, sir, but I cannot change the note.

Henry:But it's all I have on me.

owner:Oh, oh, please don't worry, sir. It's of noconsequence, no consequence at all. We are most gratified that youshould so much as set foot inside our little establishment. Indeed, sir, Itrust you will come here whenever you're seeking peace and quiet.

Henry: Oh,that's very good of you.

Owner: Good,sir? It's good of you, sir! You must come whenever you want and have whatever youlike. The mere honour of your presence is a reward in itself.

Henry:  I may not be passingthis way for quite a while.

Owner: Itwould be a very poor thing, sir. If I couldn’t trust a gentleman as rich asyourself, sir, even if you do play larks upon the public in the matter ofdress, As for the bill, sir, please forget it, It's of no consequence, noconsequence at all.

Henry: Thankyou very much then. That’s very nice of you.

Owner: it's for us to thank you,sir. And I do, sir, from the bottom of my heart.
