你的工作环境为什么有音乐才能提升效率,你知道吗?Listen to music for more productivity
中英双语文章
Often, listening to music while studying or working is thought to cause distraction and reduce work productivity.
However, work productivity seems to depend on the type of music you listen to and type of task you are doing!
But before going into deeper knowledge, we will need to define a set of terms that shall be used throughout the article.
在开始讲之前,我们先定义一下在文章中常用的专业术语,以方便大家理解~

One of the major distractors at open-plan offices are people talking! In one study, participants rated the sound of people talking to be the most distracting and least pleasing form of noise (Venetjoki et al, 2006).
One way to block out this noise is through listening to music using headphones or earphones. Choosing the right type of music in relation to the task is important in enhancing productivity.
You should listen to highly complex (fast tempo, upbeat, changing features) songs when working on routine and simple tasks. This type of music is necessary to distract oneself from the monotonous nature of the task, facilitate attention and reduce urge to procrastinate.

You should listen to low complex song (slow tempo, good rhythm, little changing features) when working on tasks that require critical thinking and problem-solving. This prevents the musical features of the song from overloading your sensory information feed, thus retaining cognitive flexibility, ability to switch between two concepts or tasks (Keeler & Cortina, 2017).

Have you ever considered why experiences such as meditation and mindfulness training use music and sound as a guide?
你考虑过为什么冥想和心力训练会用音乐和声音作为指导?
It’s because relaxing music (slow tempo and good rhythm) helps calm and relax the mind and body. It allows you to take time to think about yourself i.e. relaxing music does not take up memory.
