今天为大家带来的是著名华侨领袖——陈嘉庚的介绍

Today, we are talking something like an oversea Chinese leader--ChenJiageng

陈嘉庚(1874年－1961年)，厦门集美人，是著名爱国华侨领袖。

Chen Jiageng from Jimei Xiamen is a famous patriot and an overseas Chinese leader.

陈嘉庚的英文名字，一般使用闽南话发音的Tan Kah Kee。陈嘉庚创办了厦门大学和集美大学。

Chen Jiageng was more popularly accepted as Tan Kah Kee in local dialect among Southeast Asia. Mr. Tan was the founder of both Xiamen University and Jimei University.

陈嘉庚是马来西亚新加坡地区著名华人企业家、华侨实业家。

Tan Kah Kee was a renowed overseas Chinese industrialist and successful businessman across Malaysia and Singapore.

陈嘉庚毕生致力于兴办教育，用于办学费用达一亿美元以上, 在厦门创办小学、中学、中专和师范学院等。

As a dedicated educator, Mr. Tan donated more than 1 billion US dollars to establish primary schools, middle schools, secondary schools and colleges in Xiamen.

毛泽东主席曾题词称赞他是“华侨旗帜，民族光辉”。

Mr. Tan was praised by Chairman Mao as “a model for overseas Chinese, a bright star for the Chinese nation”.
