南京看展 | 大气层空间|曹斌华个展「径园」展览预告

Atmosphere Space即将举办艺术家曹斌华的特别项目「径园」,本次项目由策展人柳力&Joe Mills策划,项目呈现由曹斌华使用竹材与机械部件组合加工制成的动态空间装置。届时整个画廊空间或将变为充斥着异形气息与肺泡结构的竹林小径,它即是连接市井空间的通道同时也作为一个独立的游园场所,正如现世是众生安居常住的生活场所,但在佛教观念中它主要作为宿世轮回的必经通道,而每当游园的幻象被破除,序列性让位于同步性后就又使得新的游园重新形成。曹斌华解剖植物躯干并通过置入动力机械来进行的赛博改造模拟了这一逆转的形式,并借此探讨关于传统技术与城乡关系、有机神话与自动化、生命与死亡等诸多议题。
Atmosphere Space will soon host a special project by artist Cao Binhua, "Path Parks", curated by Liu Li and Joe Mills, which presents a dynamic spatial installation made by Cao Binhua using a combination of bamboo and mechanical components.The entire gallery space will be transformed into a bamboo path filled with alien scents and alveolar structures,and it will serve as a link to the urban space and also as an independent garden place just as the present world is the place where all beings live in peace and permanence.But in the Buddhist concept it is mainly used as a necessary passage for reincarnation,and every time the illusion of the garden is broken, the sequence gives way to the synchronicity and a new garden is formed again.Cao Binhua dissects the plant trunk and simulates this reversal by inserting power machinery into the cyber-transformation, and uses it to explore issues such as traditional technology and urban-rural relations, organic mythology and automation, and life and death.

埃比尼泽·霍华德(Ebenezer Howard,1850~1928)《明日的田园城市》(Garden Cities of To-morrow)中构想了一种有如植物细胞结构般具有渗透性的中心与周围关系,通过将城市公路与乡村适合漫步的悠扬小道进行诗意的过渡融合,使得城市巨大的机械性膨胀与具有弹性和吸附力的乡村之间相互补充形成一张一吸的有机整体,这种共构正如呼吸一般。这部著作产生的时代恰逢电影的诞生,电影通过帧速度将时间中的片段整合为超越其部分总和的形式,立体派紧随其后宣称“迅疾的整体知觉”,马歇尔·麦克卢汉(Marshall McLuhan)将之作为有机的整体性得以取代机械论的支点,他发现了公路是城市的前身,街道是后城市化逆转的产物,分工制缔造的机械化与电力的部落性之间时常相互转换,人类集群结构的这种规律性变化应视作在时间跨度上的有机整体,这与加速信息交换的媒介的流变有着深刻关联,其作用正如驱动着交混的赛博机体运行的轴杆、转轮与各种化合物。这些繁杂话题是曹斌华的游艺场所,由乡村到城市的路径中所蕴藏的讯息持续激发着他的遐思,作为其儿时回忆的原始手工技艺、机械器具与当下的信息化气味组合成的瞬息的整体印象,是促使他回到乡下山间伐取竹材、寻访匠师的诱因,同时他也将精力集中于考察电机工厂与学习编程。

In Garden Cities of To-morrow, Ebenezer Howard (1850-1928) conceived a permeable relationship between the center and the surroundings like the structure of a plant cell. By poetically fusing the urban highway with the gentle paths of the countryside for strolling, the huge mechanical expansion of the city and the resilient and absorbing countryside complement each other to form an organic whole.This co-construction is just like breathing.The book of urban planning coincided with the birth of cinema, which, through the speed of the frame, integrates fragments of time into a form that transcends the sum of its parts.The cubists followed, claiming "swift holistic perception".Marshall McLuhan used this as a fulcrum from which organic wholeness could replace mechanism, finding that the highway was the precursor to the city, that the street was the product of a post-urban reversal, and that the mechanization created by the division of labor and the tribal nature of electricity were often interchanged.This regular change in the structure of human clusters should be seen as an organic whole over the span of time, which is profoundly linked to the fluidity of the medium of accelerated information exchange, which acts as the axial rods, rotors and various compounds that drive the operation of the intermingled cyber-organism.These tedious topics are Cao Binhua's playground. The message embedded in the path from the countryside to the city continues to inspire his reverie. The transient overall impression of the combination of primitive handicraft and mechanical apparatus as his childhood memories and the scent of information technology in the present is the trigger for him to return to the countryside in the mountains to cut bamboo and visit craftsmen, while he also focuses his energy on inspecting motor factories and learning programming.

为了在大自然与我们过度延伸的文化之间找到一种平衡,曹斌华一改往常使用3D打印等新型技术和材料来营造高反光、轻盈质感与仿生视效的模式,而希冀寻找一种兼具柔韧性和松脆质感的纯天然材料与制动技术相结合,以此重塑的不仅是以个体为单位而且还是作为空间的对象。竹子本身所具有的整体外观与分段的空心内径结构使其同时兼具个体性与空间性,此外,曹斌华从LX600直流电机中拆卸的线型推杆是涡轮电机在其功能结构上的一种延伸,正如信息技术之于车轮与纸张的世界所造成的冲击那般,这种驱动装置通过将机械的旋转运动转变为直线往复运动以对机体的执行机制进行重塑。在本次项目中,曹斌华试图将这一结构以平滑过渡的方式嫁接到植物体中,并进行多方位的材质嵌合与编程的试验,譬如对竹肺形态的营造及对其仿生机制在声音和速率上的不厌其烦的微调,以及对某种“整体知觉”的有意无意的构建,使我们终或能在空间的私密化与场所的公共性之间窥见一种谐音,尽管其架构仍待完善或亟需更多与此相关的思想以供研究。
In order to find a balance between nature and our overextended culture, Cao Binhua changed the usual pattern of using new technologies and materials, such as 3D printing to create highly reflective, lightweight textures and bionic visual effects, and instead sought to find a combination of natural materials with braking technology that is both flexible and crunchy. In this way, it is not only the individual as a unit but also the object as a space that is reshaped. The overall appearance of the bamboo itself and the segmented hollow inner diameter structure make it both individual and spatial. In addition, the linear actuator Cao Binhua removed from the LX600 DC motor is an extension of the turbine motor in its functional structure, just like the impact of information technology on the world of wheels and paper, this drive reshapes the body's execution mechanism by transforming the mechanical rotary motion into a linear reciprocating motion.In this project, Cao Binhua tried to graft this structure into the plant body with a smooth transition and experimented with multi-directional material embedding and programming. For example, the creation of the bamboo lung form and the untiring fine-tuning of its bionic mechanism in terms of sound and rate, as well as the intentional and unintentional construction of a certain "holistic perception", allow us to finally glimpse a harmonic sound between the privatization of space and the publicity of place, although its structure still needs to be perfected or more ideas related to it are urgently needed for research.
