他们对我说——不要刻画

      拟态为虎的宇宙

只有它的条纹盘绕着你

      在锋面上，在星系间

他们说，不要和它四目相对

      它的瞳孔是死灭的恒星

他们让我去银河森林中

      寻找一片空地

描述一只老虎

      褪下毛皮 躺在那里

而我的语词便是它们的条纹

Tiger Myth

They said to me – don’t write about 

       the tiger-shaped universe,

only its stripes spiralling around you

       in weather fronts and galaxies.

They said – don’t meet its gaze,

       its eyes are dying stars.

They told me instead to go to a clearing

       in the Milky Forest

where a tiger lies skinned.

       Describe that, they said.

And my words were its stripes

       cutting across the page,

the ripple of its ringed tail

       one of creation’s cobras –

an endless vowel speeding

       towards extinction.

And I saw that sentences could be fur

       stripped from the living power,

that they were cooling

       as I tried to write them. 

There was no roar, just a whimper,

       which told me it was still alive.

Then they asked – who

       is the hunter, who the hunted?

while elephants of gravity

       lumbered all around us.

My father’s rifle leant against the wall

       like a tired flamingo

as the voices murmured, and a bee

       hummed like a bullet.

帕斯卡尔•葩蒂（Pascale Petit）

生于巴黎，在法国及威尔士长大，现居康沃尔，其家族有法国/威尔士/印度多重渊源。第七部诗集《亚马逊丛林中的母亲》（血斧出版社，2017）名列Poetry Book Society Choice（英国诗歌图书协会）推荐读本。此前出版6本诗集，其中4部荣获艾略特诗歌奖（T.S. Eliot Prize）提名、第6部诗集《猛兽园》（Seren出版社，2014）中诗作斩获2013曼彻斯特诗歌奖（Manchester Poetry Prize）。2015年被英国作家协会(The Society of Authors)授予康姆德列奖（Cholmondeley Award)，曾任2015年度艾略特诗歌奖评委会主席。她的诗作被广泛译为西班牙语、中文、塞尔维亚语及法语等。曾游历秘鲁及委内瑞亚境内的亚马逊雨林、中国、哈萨克斯坦、尼泊尔及墨西哥等。有三部选集被《泰晤士报文学评论副刊》（TLS）、独立杂志(Independent Magazine)和《观察家报》（The Observer）列为“年度图书”，2018年荣获皇家文学协会出版物奖（RSL Literature Matters Award）。2017年出版的《亚马逊丛林中的母亲》（血斧出版社）荣获英国皇家文学学会授予的2018年度翁达杰奖、诗歌书籍协会推荐书籍，及进入罗汉普顿诗歌奖短名单。
