用布迪厄的理论，去看，怎么样的“写法”，在制度、个人、专业作用下，才能被认定为“社会学的”。此之谓一种“正当化”的过程。也就是说：

摘要：

The thesis explores how knowledge in sociology becomes understood as valuable or legitimate, and does this through a focus on writing processes and practices. The central research question of the thesis asks whether there is there a relationship between the craft of writing, and becoming legitimate or gaining a ‘sense’ of legitimacy as a producer of sociological knowledge. Within this the research explores the personal, professional and institutional(ized) processes of crafting academic sociology writing, how these different processes may be complementary or in friction with one another and whether they are connected to a writer’s sense of their own legitimacy as a scholar of sociology.

The methodology is based on a multi-sited ethnography, in which the sites of research are people rather than geographical or community spaces.The main portion of research involves ten participants and includes interviews, participant observation and some documentary research. The thesis is grounded in a combination of feminist Bourdieusian scholarship and postcolonial/Critical Race Theory.It uses Bourdieusian concepts of field, habitus and capital to examine the central research question, but questions these concepts themselves and the ways in which they present and enshrine notions of value and legitimacy by bringing in the work of Skeggs (2004), Lawler (2013) and Bhambra (2014).

The aim of the thesis is to uncover and expose the structural and conceptual factors which influence knowledge production in UK sociology.
