With more and more people going abroad, bringing a pet isbecoming more common. In some cases, you can take your pet with youoverseas.  However, there are several things to consider when weighingwhether or not to move overseas with your pet, and the points below should beconsidered.

What are the Requirements for bringing a pet into china?

Different countries have different requirements whenadmitting a pet. Below are the requirements to bring a pet to china.

   •     STEP 1: Proof of rabies vaccination. Your petmust be vaccinated for rabies within 1 year of entry into China. ...

   •     STEP 2: International Health Certificate.

   •     STEP 3: Copy of traveler's passport. ...

   •     STEP 4: Photograph of pet. ...

   •     STEP 5: Customs and Quarantine. ...

   •     STEP 6: Registering your Pet upon Arrival inChina.

What type of pet do you want to take?

What type of pet are you thinking of bringing with you whenyou go abroad?  The more exotic, the more unlikely you will be able totravel with it. Also, airlines will have different policies for transportingdifferent animals and many nations have different restrictions for differenttypes of animals.

Is Travel stressful on animals?

International flights can often be very long and stressfulfor both humans and pets alike. Owners should consider whether or not they canor should sedate their pet for a long international flight.

What are the costs of travel with animals?

International travel with animals will incur additionalcosts.  Costs will vary depending on the type of pet, length and mode oftravel and the requirements of the country to which you will bring the animalwhen you teach English abroad.

Is Travel more difficult for older pets?

How old is your pet?  The older the pet, the less likelythey will adapt to the dramatic change involved in moving abroad.  On theother hand, younger pets have more energy, and require more exercise.  Inthe case of dogs, the opportunity to walk your dog as frequently as needed maynot arise right away when you’re abroad.

Will your pet be happy?

Finally, the biggest thing any pet owner needs to consider isif your pet really wants to move around the world.  The bond between a petand its owner can be one of the strongest relationships in one’s life, but inmany cases, Travelers realize that the best course of action is to find afriend or family member to care for the pet while they’re overseas.

Considering the majority of people who are abroad only do so for a short term (1-2 years), this proves to be the best option for many people in china.
