Considering that each episode has a budget of $10 million, you'd think that a fair chunk of that would be spent on designing the lavish costumes.

That couldn't be further from the truth. The fur capes that are worn in the show are nothing but cheap rugs from IKEA.

This shocking revelation was unveiled by Michele Clapton, a costume designer on the show, when she recently spoke at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles:

These capes are actually IKEA rugs.

It's a bit of a truth. We take anything we can.

We cut, shave them, add strong leather straps and then breakdown, which is like a religion on Game of Thrones.

Here they were waxed and frosted so they belonged to the landscape.

First, pick up an IKEA sheepskin rug ($30), and then follow these instructions to turn it into a Jon Snow-style cape. Using a pair of scissors, cut out a hold for your head and shoulders in the middle of the rug, and then place it over your head for some warmth.

首先，挑选一块宜家绵羊皮地毯($30)，然后按照该操作指南把它变成一件琼恩·雪诺版的披肩。用一把剪刀从地毯的中间剪出头和肩膀的位置，然后把它套在头上就可以取暖了。

Of course, to fully complete your King in the North costume, you’ll also need a black cloak and a Valyrian-steel sword.
