Did you know, that using a mobile phone, can be bad for your health? This is because of neck and shoulder pain, that is cause by looking down for long periods of time.
Using proper posture, when using your phone, is very important for long term health.
Different Angles of Using a Mobile Phone
When using proper posture (see above photo), a person's neck will only need to support the weight of the head, which is 4 or 5 KG. This is the normal angle, and is healthy.
However, bowing & bending the neck to 15 degrees (see above photo), will create weight of around 12KG. This instantly, can cause neck and shoulder pain.
This is the same as putting 4 Cola two liter bottles, ontop a person's head.
Next, bending the neck to 30 degrees (see above photo), will create a weight of 18kg on a person's neck. This is will cause short term shoulder and neck pain, and is not recommended.
This is the same as putting 7 Cola two liter bottles, ontop a person's head.
Next, bending the neck to 45 degrees (see above photo), will create a weight of 22KG on the person's neck. This is enough weight to cause long term neck and shoulder muscle pain.
This is the same as putting 9 Cola two liter bottles, ontop a person's head.
Lastly, bending the neck to 60 degrees (see above photo), similar to bowing, will create a weight of 27KG on a person's head. This is incredibly dangerous, and can lead to long term muscle and back pain, and even injury.
This is the same as putting 11 Cola two liter bottles, ontop a person's head!
How to avoid neck pain, and play properly
It's important to keep the head and neck straight, with the shoulders squared, to avoid pain and injury.
Suggestion 1 (Above)
Keep the shoulders and head straight, and bring the phone to eye level. Use your resting arm, to support the other arm, to prevent tiredness. Do not bow, or look down, keep the phone at eye level, similar to talking to another person.
Suggestion 2 (Above)
Sit down at a table, and use the arms to bring the phone at eye level. The elbows will rest on the table, to support holding the phone. Keep the back and head straight, and do not bow.
Suggestion 3 (Above)
Sit down at a table, and use a hands free phone stand to hold the phone. Sit straight, and keep the neck and shoulders squared. Adjust the phone stand to be at eye level, this is similar to watching TV.
