China's largest online shopping spree

gets greener

This year marks the largest Singles' Day shopping festival on Tmall, with a record 290,000 brands participating and more than 14 million varieties of commodities offering discounts, according to the company. However, instead of simply luring consumers to sweep up the goods, the company has started encouraging them to shop "greener."

The annual event, which falls on Thursday, was first started by Alibaba's e-commerce platform on Nov. 11, 2009, and quickly grew into a major shopping spree. However, it now carries additional connotations, thanks to enterprises' growing awareness of social responsibility and the country's detailed regulatory policies.

Also known as Double Eleven, the festival is no longer simply a consumption extravaganza but also a platform for promoting the concept of building a better life.

Alongside deploying freighter capacity, the cargo airline has also added more than 10 new routes to meet demands and link diverse regions with the country's eastern region, a major cluster of e-commerce.

earlier; temperature to hit 10-year record low

Beijing's first snow came 23 days earlier this winter season, and the temperature in the capital may hit a 10-year record low, which has led to the suspension of buses, as well as cancellation of flights and trains.

COVID-19-affected regions will operate special snow and ice shoveling standards -snow in the epidemic-related enclosed and controlled area will be stacked and dissipated on the spot in the enclosed area, and it is not allowed to be transported out of the area, according to the Beijing Municipal Management Committee.

The committee said the city has made all-out preparations in advance. Standby personnel of 56,000, a reserve of 33,000 tons of snow melting agent and 30,000 tons of snow melting fluid were ready to carry out snow removal.

Zhou Pigai, a Chinese professor from Central China's Hunan Province, who was a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California, has fought off a robber in Los Angeles using Chinese kung fu.

Zhou was walking on a street near Chinatown when a man in black outfit and mask suddenly attacked him. Being held at gunpoint, Zhou did not have time to think but spontaneously used his left hand to block the gun, meanwhile he used his right fist to knock the gun to the ground.

He then ran away dragging his suitcase. As he stopped to check out his wound, the robber caught him again, and took his suitcase. After several rounds of fighting, the robber fled the scene.

10 detained for renting gaming accounts

Police have detained 10 people in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, after an investigation into breaches of restrictions on children's online video game time.

In August, China limited gaming time for under-18s to three hours a week-one hour on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 pm to 9 pm. An extra hour of gaming time is allowed on the seven national holidays.

After the restriction was issued, a parent in Nanjing reported to police that his child was playing online games all day. Nanjing police launched an investigation of more than 40 people and in September found that four online stores were renting game accounts to students and bypassing player verification protocols.

Depression included in health checks of

students

China will include screening for depression in students' regular health checks to prevent psychological issues among them, the Ministry of Education said.

In response to a proposal on preventing depression among students made this year by a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the ministry said a record of students' mental health will be established, with special attention given to students showing signs of mental problems.

A comprehensive system for the prevention of mental illness will be put in place. Schools should offer information about professional consulting and screening centers to students and guide them to actively seek help, the ministry said.

Robot steers people toward virus tests in

Dalian

A humanoid robot is getting a lot of attention as it guides residents to coronavirus tests at a sample collection site in Dalian, Liaoning province. The city is bucking an infection surge that started on Thursday.

The robot talks: "Please hold your health code and ID card. Let's actively cooperate with the medical staff and quickly curb the epidemic together. Fighting!"

While speaking in a local dialect over a loudspeaker, the robot — which looks like a young woman — nods, gestures and moves its lips at the EX Future Science and Technology Museum in Jinshitan.

Dalian reported one new locally transmitted COVID-19 case on Nov 4. As of Tuesday, it counted 62 confirmed infections and 70 asymptomatic carriers.

Shenzhou-13 crew delivers first

spacewalk; Wang Yaping becomes first

As many Chinese celebrate the first snow of the winter season on Earth, the heroes of the Shenzhou-13 crew are setting new national milestones in space, with mission commander and the country's first spacewalker Zhai Zhigang and his fellow female taikonaut Wang Yaping stepping out of the node cabin of the Tianhe space station core module on Sunday evening to carry out the crew's first extravehicular activities (EVA). Wang has officially become the first Chinese woman ever to execute a spacewalk mission.

Wearing the country's new-generation Feitian spacesuits specially designed for the EVA, the two came out of the node cabin of the Tianhe core module by 8:28pm. Wang, shortly after stepping out the cabin, waved back to Earth, and said she felt great.
