Call for applications, CRTA workshop on reading late imperial Chinese religious texts
Aussois, France, December 15-19, 2019
This five-day workshop is organized by the CRTA (Chinese Religious Texts Authority) project, supported by FROGBEAR. CRTA is an open-access, international collaborative database project aiming at describing Chinese religious texts. The workshop will introduce CRTA to participants and produce descriptions of chosen texts at the same time as it will train participants in readings late imperial religious texts of different genres.
We open this call to graduate students and early-career scholars of all nationalities and disciplines; we require a good reading command of classical Chinese and capacity of taking active part in discussions in English. We will also ask each participant to prepare in advance descriptions of three texts of their choosing within a corpus (we will send corpus and template ahead of time). We hope that participants will maintain participation in the project after the workshop.
The workshop will take place in a beautiful resort in the French Alps, in the village of Aussois. The resort will provide single-room accommodation and full board.
Candidates should send a letter and CV to frogbear.project@ubc.ca before April 30, 2019. The letter (in English) should explain how training in reading late imperial religious texts intersects with and can enrich their own research.

Costs
CRTA covers transportation from Paris and accommodation and meals in Aussois. Transportation costs (international airfare) to Paris: current budget may allow us to fund airfare only partially, but we are applying for extra funds.
