Today: Summer is here



On this most summery of days, we are ready to release our Summer season pizzas!  There will be those of you who are lamenting the loss of our Spring pies, but we’re very excited about this season’s selections and we’re sure you will be too. Plus we have a surprise (read to the end).



Summer’s guest chef pizza is by Ramon Verano, who recently took charge of Mikkeller’s kitchen.  Originally from Spain’s Asturias region, he trained as a chef in Spain, before moving to London to hone his skills. In Shanghai he was previously at Tomatito and loves to explore local delicacies here.



Zhajiang Pizza


With that in mind, it’s not such a surprise that Ramon’s pizza is a riff on the popular Chinese noodle dish Zhajiang Mian.  It’s a firm favorite of ours too, but it took quite some pizza wizardry to get it into a form that works on a pizza.  Our Zhajiang Pizza has a sauce made with yellow bean and sweet noodle sauces, garlic, ginger, cassia and star anise.  It’s then topped with pork mince cooked with the same seasonings and then finished with raw cucumber and carrot shreds.  Hitting all the notes you’d get from a bowl of noodles, but the noodles have been replaced by our signature sourdough crust.


As usual we will be donating 10% of all revenue from this pizza to Stepping Stones. Homeslice has been happy to donate over 200,000 to their work, thanks to your support of our guest chef pizzas.


For summer, we also have two new pizzas of our own.


Our two new pizzas are riffs on old favorites.  Supa Dupa Cheese (fly, like Missy Eliott) takes one of our oldest specials, Supercheese and turns the cheese volume dial up to 11.  Topped with Italian fontina and provolone piccante, our house-made ricotta, plus mozzarella and parmesan, it’s finished with a scattering of basil leaves. Definitely one for the cheese-lovers.

Finally, we have White Artichoke pizza, a white pizza with artichokes marinated in herb and lemon peel infused extra-virgin olive oil, roasted cherry tomatoes, and finished with parsley and lemon zest.  Those elements come together as a harmonious whole to make your heart sing.

After we've had quite a few special requests, we're going to keep what might be the most popular pizza from Spring 2021 on the menu for a few more weeks: yes, that's right - your wish has been granted, Italian Meatball is here for a while longer. We'll be switching it up with a new seasonal pizza later in the summer.

All four of these pizzas will be available from Friday 30th July and will be around until October, both in-store and on the usual delivery platforms. Zhajiang Pizza will be available by the slice until the end of the season, and we’ll be rotating through the rest each week, starting with Supa Dupa Cheese.
