《但是你没有》
作者是一位普通的美国妇女，
她的丈夫在女儿4岁时应征入伍
去了越南战场，
从此她便和女儿相依为命。
后来，她的丈夫、孩子的爸爸
不幸阵亡。
她终身守寡，直至年老病逝。
她的女儿在整理遗物时
发现了母亲当年写给父亲的这首诗，
题目就是《但是你没有》。

我的爱与你同在。
Remember the day I borrowed your
brand new car and dented it?
记得那天，
我借用你的新车，我撞凹了它
I thought you'd kill me,

我以为你一定会杀了我，

The Vietnam War, also known as the Second Indochina War, and in Vietnam as the Resistance War Against America or simply the American War, was a conflict that occurred in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from 1 November 1955 to the fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975. The North Vietnamese army was supported by the Soviet Union, China and other communist allies and the South Vietnamese army was supported by the United States, South Korea, Australia, Thailand and other anti-communist allies. The war is therefore considered a Cold War-era proxy war. The war is considered a humiliation for the United States.

越南战争（1955年－1975年），简称越战，又称第二次印度支那战争，其本质为受美国等民主主义阵营国家支持的南越（越南共和国）对抗受苏联等共产主义国家支持的北越（越南民主共和国）和“越南南方民族解放阵线”（又称越共）的一场战争。其发生在冷战时期的越南（主战场）、老挝、柬埔寨，是二战以后美国参战人数最多、影响最为深远的战争，最终美国在越南战争中遭受严重损失，综合国力随之削弱，冷战的优势逐渐为苏联占据。
