Now an April tradition, The Merchants is once again hosting Marselan Festival - for the sixth time! - this year in both Shanghai and Beijing.
The Merchants x Grape Wall of China Marselan Festival brings together dozens of Marselan wineries from different regions in China for an exciting wine-fueled day of grape discoveries and fine sipping, surrounded by good vibes, live DJ beats and lots of friends. You’ll get to try a huge array of delicious Marselan wines from around 40 Chinese wineries, spanning everything from hidden gems to newbies to the scene.
So, what's Marselan?
The Merchants x Grape Wall of China Marselan Festival celebrates the great Marselan grape – which in recent years has come to be known as the signature grape of Chinese wines! Marselan is cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, originally cultivated in France just over 60 years ago – today, outside of France, these grapes are most widely planted in China.
These much-loved, brilliant purple grapes make well-balanced, medium-bodied wines with ripe red fruit flavors and fresh, aromatic floral and herbal notes. China’s Marselan wines are seeing more and more attention across the globe. And fun fact: it was a Beijing-based Canadian wine lover who initiated World Marselan Day in 2018, suggesting it fall on April 27 – the birthday of the grape’s creator, Paul Truel. His name is Jim Boyce, the founder of Grape Wall of China. And he will be onsite in Beijing pouring the wine & explaining about the wine that he handpicked!
