Jack Teixeira had the highest-level security clearance granted by the federal government for top secret information. The arrest of the 21-year-old Air National Guardsman has been met with outrage as critics wonder how a young man could have such high-level access to national security information. Attorney General Merrick Garland said that Teixeira is being investigated for the "alleged unauthorized removal, retention, and transmission of classified national defense information”.

Gretchen Whitmer signed a package of six expansive gun violence prevention bills into law that will create universal background checks for all firearms and mandate safe storage requirements around children. Michigan has felt the impact of deadly school shootings in recent years. In February, a gunman killed three Michigan State University students and critically wounded five others. In 2021, a shooting at Oxford High School near Detroit left four students dead and six others injured. The package includes two bills that focus on creating universal background checks that will bar people in the state from purchasing and carrying a firearm if they have not received a license for it. In addition, one bill will require people to keep their firearms unloaded and locked with a locking device or stored in a lockbox in their home if a minor lives at or is likely to visit the property.

Alito said the order is stayed until 11:59 p.m. ET on next Wednesday. He also asked plaintiffs to respond on or before noon ET next Tuesday. The case is the most important abortion-related dispute to reach the high court since the justices overturned Roe v. Wade last term. The nation's biggest bank, JPMorgan Chase reported a profit of $12.6 billion that was up 52% from the first quarter of 2022. Its revenue of $38.3 billion was up 25% from the year-ago period. Wells Fargo earned $5 billion, Citigroup earned $4.6 billion, and PNC earned $1.7 billion. The giants of the industry were not totally immune from the chaos surrounding the failures of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank. Deposits at JPMorgan, Wells Fargo and PNC fell by 7%, 8% and 3% from a year ago, while Citigroup was roughly flat. JPMorgan and PNC deposits did rise slightly, however, compared with the fourth quarter of 2022.
