Add oil被收入《牛津英语词典》！网友：Chinglish又赢了

怎么用英语喊加油，是小伙伴们常问的问题。

英语国家的人会说“Come on!”、“Go for it!”或“Go! Go! Go!”等……

但如果有调皮的同学字对字地翻译为“add oil”，一定会被老师批评的……

不过，现在大家不用纠结了，因为，这个曾经被人们无情嘲笑的纯Chinglish，已经被“扶正”，正式被收入《牛津英语词典》。

《牛津英语词典》在最近一次更新中，收录了由中文“加油”直译来的英文“add oil”，让我们来看看OED（Oxford English Dictionary）官方的解释。

Add oil is an expression that has gained a lot of currency in Hong Kong in the last few years. A literal translation of the Cantonese phrase ga yau, it is used by Hong Kongers as an exclamation expressing encouragement or support.

“Add oil”是近几年香港人广泛使用的一种表达方式，它是粤语“ga yau”（加油的粤语发音）的字面翻译，是表达鼓励或支持的感叹词。

BBC News也专门制作了一个调皮的视频报道。

想进入《牛津英汉词典》可不是那么容易的，每个新词都要经过历史的考验，并为人广泛熟知。

According to Oxford University Press, a word must require sufficient independent examples of use over a “reasonable amount of time” to be considered for inclusion. 

牛津大学出版社表示，一个词需要在“合理的一段时间”内有足够多的独立使用案例才能被考虑纳入词典内。

The publishers also consider whether the word has reached a “level of general currency”, that is, understood by readers without the need of an explanation of its meaning.

出版社还会考虑这个词是否达到了“通用标准”，即读者不需要注解便能理解它的意思。

台湾媒体10月14日刊登了东吴大学英文系曾泰元副教授的文章，其中指出了“add oil”的4次使用案例。

最近的一条例句来自《中国日报》香港版2016年6月7日的报道，作者是英国驻港教育学者Andrew Mitchell：

If we really are serious about being Asia's World City, we still have a lot of work to do. So add oil, everyone!

如果我们真想成为亚洲的世界级城市，那么我们还有很多事情要做。所以各位，加油吧！

这篇《中国日报》的文章介绍了香港文化的繁荣，以及港式英文对英语的影响，并提出“加油”就是一个很好的例子。

Hong Kong English continues to flourish in post-colonial Hong Kong, with some popular local expressions increasingly used in English rather than the original Cantonese. One example is "add oil", a direct translation of gayau, a term of encouragement meaning keep going.

港式英语在后殖民时代的香港继续蓬勃发展，很多流行的当地表达在英文中用到的频率甚至超过原来的广东话。一个例子就是“加油”，是gayau的直译，表达鼓励之意。

如今“add oil”被收入《牛津英语词典》，成为一个标准的英文词条了。

那些年被收入词典的“中式英语”

英语是出了名的兼收并蓄，在发展过程中吸收了大量的外来语，其中也有不少“中国元素”。

如long time no see（好久不见）已经被外国人广泛使用。

大名鼎鼎的Bubble tea或Milk tea也将自己的名号带到了国外。

2016年3月，OED的季度更新中收入了许多来自香港英语的单词，例如大排档（dai pai dong）、街坊（kaifong）、叉烧（char siu）、饮茶（yum cha）。
