常听人说“做好一件事，前提是要有兴趣”。这话不假。
有人把工作也放到这个范畴里来，说：
“If you’re passionate about what you do, you won’t work a day in your life.”
如果你对自己的工作充满热情，那你这辈子就相当于不需要工作啦。
乍听之下，真的无比憧憬那种轻松快乐又拿钱的生活呢。
但事实呢？
“If you’re passionate about what you do, you won’t work a day in your life.” Unfortunately, THIS IS BADLY WRONG. It’s still really hard work even though you enjoy it. And to make matters worse, you might work so hard to the point where you end up hating the thing you loved.
“如果你把工作当做兴趣一样充满热情地干，那你这辈子就相当于不需要工作啦”。不幸的是，这句话很有毛病。因为即使你喜欢，工作仍然是工作，很辛苦的。更糟糕的是，你可能因为太过辛苦，到头来甚至会讨厌你曾热爱的事情。
It ought to be pointed out that we don’t ever want to discourage someone from pursuing their passions, I just want to make sure they’re aware of the risks so they have a better grasp of these issues that may come along and they can better deal with it.
必须声明一下，我们不是阻止别人追求他们的爱好，我只是想确保他们能意识到这里面的风险，只有这样他们才能够更好地理解这样的选择所伴随的问题，也能够更好地处理这些问题。
Here’s a quote: “Motivation gets you started, but discipline is what keeps you going.” It’s pretty easy to start something because you are excited about it, but the only way to see that you are going to see it to fruition is if you have the discipline to keep working even when your motivation runs out.
有句话说得好：“好的动机是一个好的开始，但只有自制力才能让你走得更远。”开始做某件事很容易，因为你对它充满了兴奋感，但唯一能确保有所成就的是，当热情耗尽时，你是否还能有自制力继续工作。
有些人压根就没想过把爱好变成工作。
再有文采的人估计也不会觉得凌晨三点被编辑催稿是一件乐事。
很多名家都是拖延症患者，抗战期间，北新书局出版的《青年界》，就曾向老舍催过稿。
甚至有人因为拖稿，而变得穷困潦倒——说的就是《了不起的盖茨比》的作者菲茨杰拉德。他因为生活奢靡加上后续作品失去影响力，很多杂志跟报社都终止了和他的合作。

但日本漫画家富坚义博（代表作《幽游白书》《全职猎人》）就是个狠角儿，应付催稿的理由很多，坊间流传的就有如下这些：
❶ 外出取材去了
❷ 连续患了三年的普通感冒
❸ 白天画漫画、晚上画漫画，操劳过度
❹ 老婆回娘家去了
❺ 老婆罢工了
❻ 其实一开始就是老婆画的（富坚的妻子是《美少女战士》的作者武内直子）
❼ 笔没墨了
❽ 我的原稿被老鼠偷走了
❾ 没有理由，休刊吧
你看，哪怕是站在“工作与兴趣的结合段位”顶峰的人，也不能完全掌控灵感这种东西。
好在有些人的工作就很难变成爱好，不然画风会很奇怪。比方说这位：
I love my job, but it’s not really practical for it to turn into a hobby.
我爱我的职业，但是要把它变成爱好就不太实际了。

The difference between your career and your hobby depends on the goal for each, whether it be ambition or enjoyment. A career requires a commitment to making progress and to excelling over time, which takes effort, practice and training. Hobbies, on the other hand, are defined as those activities you pursue for relaxation and pleasure.
你的事业和你的爱好之间的区别取决于它们各自的目标，是职业抱负还是兴趣享受。事业有成的前提是为工作进步而献身，不断超越，这需要大量的努力、练习和训练。相反，业余爱好就是你追求放松和快乐的活动。
Profit vs. Pleasure

While a career implies the job or business you pursue for your survival, you can also use hobbies to make money. Hobbies such as creative writing, painting, sewing, and woodworking offer you the ability to turn a profit from what you create. The difference between the two depends on how profitable you wish your hobby to be.
工作意味着你需要为生存而付出劳动力，但你也可以利用业余爱好赚钱。诸如创造性写作、绘画、缝纫和木工等等业余爱好，都让你能从创造的东西中获利。这两者之间的区别，取决于你希望自己的爱好到底能有多么赚钱。
Work vs. Play
工作与玩乐
Turning a hobby into a career significantly ups the ante on your overall goals. Ultimately you define that which is work and that which is play by what you wish to gain out of either endeavor.
把一个爱好变成一项工作，会大大提高你的总体目标要求。那么最后，这件事情到底是工作还是玩乐，就看你希望从这项活动中获取的是什么了。
As writer David Bruce put it: "A man chopping wood for winter is working. A man chopping wood in a lumberjack contest is playing."
正如作家大卫·布鲁斯所说：“一个为过冬而砍柴的人是在工作，但一个在伐木比赛中砍柴的人就是在玩了。”
有人干脆选择不费脑子，采取了一种界限分明的观点——不求工作有趣，不望兴趣赚钱。
