经典影片《乱世佳人》遭下架：被批“美化奴隶制”
黑人男子乔治·弗洛伊德之死引发的全美反种族主义抗议活动持续，局势紧张。
6月9日，华纳传媒旗下的HBO Max平台将经典影片《乱世佳人》（Gone with the Wind）下架，原因是该电影“美化奴隶制”、“涉嫌种族歧视”。
HBO Max的发言人告诉Variety杂志：
"'Gone With The Wind' is a product of its time and depicts some of the ethnic and racial prejudices that have, unfortunately, been commonplace in American society. These racist depictions were wrong then and are wrong today, and we felt that to keep this title up without an explanation and a denouncement of those depictions would be irresponsible."
“《乱世佳人》是时代的产物，很遗憾地，它描述了一些在当时美国社会中司空见惯的民族和种族偏见。这些种族主义的描写在当时是错误的，在今天也是错误的，我们认为，如果不对这些描写作出解释和谴责，保留这部影片是不负责任的。”

6月8日，他在《洛杉矶时报》发表了一篇专栏文章，要求HBO Max暂时下架《乱世佳人》，认为其延续了种族刻板印象、美化了南北战争前的南方地区（perpetuates racial stereotypes and glorifies the antebellum South）。
约翰·莱德利在文章中写道：
It is a film that glorifies the antebellum south. It is a film that, when it is not ignoring the horrors of slavery, pauses only to perpetuate some of the most painful stereotypes of people of color.

《乱世佳人》的历史争议
《乱世佳人》于1939年首映，改编自玛格丽特·米切尔（Margaret Mitchell）的小说《飘》，以美国南北战争为背景，讲述了主人公斯嘉丽与白瑞德之间一段跌宕起伏的爱情故事。
该片获得了包括最佳影片（best picture）在内的10项奥斯卡奖，其中，饰演女主奶妈的哈蒂·麦克丹尼尔（Hattie McDaniel）成为首位获得奥斯卡奖的黑人。
Upon its release, “Gone With the Wind” broke theater attendance records and was the highest-grossing film of all time to that point. It still holds the record when adjusted for inflation.
《乱世佳人》上映后打破了影院的上座率纪录，在当时成为有史以来票房最高的电影。即使通货膨胀调整后，它仍然保持着这一纪录。

Based on the novel by Margaret Mitchell, it features slave characters who seem content with their lot and who remain loyal to their former owners after slavery's abolition.

The issue at stake here isn't about one film. It's about a much broader issue of whether we judge history by modern standards, even while recognizing that what we consider to be modern standards are fluid, contested and will someday themselves be consigned to history.
