最终，特朗普还是戴上了口罩
当地时间11日，美国总统特朗普在参观华盛顿郊外的沃尔特·里德国家军事医疗中心时，戴上了印有总统印章的黑色口罩，其身边的随行人员也都戴了口罩。
这是特朗普首次在疫情期间公开戴口罩。
US President Donald Trump was seen wearing a mask while visiting a military hospital near Washington, DC, on Saturday, the first time he did so on camera since the coronavirus pandemic broke out in the country.
特朗普此前一直不愿意戴口罩，经常不戴口罩出现在公共场所。然而，随着疫情蔓延到共和党选民众多的州，特朗普近期改变了口风。
在此次访问医院之前，特朗普在白宫的草坪上告诉记者，他探视时可能会戴上口罩。“我认为在医院这种特殊的环境里，你要和很多士兵交谈，有的还刚从手术台上下来。所以我觉得在这戴口罩是一件很棒的事情。我从来没有反对戴口罩，但我认为戴口罩是看时间和场合的”。
"I'll probably have a mask," Trump told reporters ahead of his trip to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, where he visited injured soldiers and medical workers tasked with containing the coronavirus.
"I think when you're in a hospital especially in that particular setting, where you are talking to a lot of soldiers, people that in some cases just got off the operating table," the president said. "I think it's a great thing to wear a mask. I've never been against masks but I do believe they have a time and a place."
自今年3月新冠疫情在美国全面暴发以来，特朗普认为自己身体健康，频繁的病毒检测结果均为阴性，因此一直拒绝戴口罩。
Trump has been refusing to wear a mask himself since the pandemic broke out, citing his good health and frequent negative tests for the virus.
据美国媒体报道，特朗普5月下旬视察密歇根州一家福特汽车制造厂时，尽管公司事先提醒白宫，工厂有戴口罩的规定，但特朗普只在视察开始时的活动中戴了口罩，且不让记者拍摄。他表示，不想让媒体因为看到自己戴口罩而开心。
Trump wore a mask behind the scene in late May during a visit to a Ford factory in Michigan. "I did wear. I had one on before," he told reporters on camera at the plant when asked why he decided not to wear a mask.
"But I didn't want to give the press the pleasure of seeing it," Trump said, showing the reporters a mask with a presidential seal on it that he said was the one he wore.
6月下旬以来，随着美国疫情越来越严重，来自民主、共和两党的多名政要敦促特朗普以身作则，向美国民众展示戴口罩对于防止新冠病毒传播的重要性。美国多名公共卫生专家也一再表示，戴口罩是防止新冠病毒传播的关键。
Even Republican lawmakers have advised him to do so publicly so as to curb the spread of the contagion.
7月初，特朗普首次表示他支持民众都戴上口罩，“我绝对支持戴口罩，我觉得戴口罩挺好”。他称自己有个黑色口罩，“戴上它我看起来像个独行侠”。

不过，白宫拒绝强制要求全美民众于疫情期间在公共场所戴口罩。据美国全国公共广播电台11日报道，美国已有逾20个州要求民众在公共场所戴口罩，但疫情严重的亚利桑那和佛罗里达等州仍未发布这类州长令。
据美国约翰斯·霍普金斯大学统计，截至美国东部时间11日傍晚，美国新冠确诊病例累计超过324万例，死亡病例超过13.4万例。
