工作室画廊很荣幸将于2022年11月6日举办艺术家欧鸣在画廊的第四次的重要个展《重复,等待》。此次展览欧鸣将呈现他的近两年对于雕塑和生命的全新思考。
近几年来,欧鸣一直试图在他的雕塑作品中创造一个不断变化的、犹如生命一般存在的有机实体,利用石膏、水(颜色)和陶瓷、兼具“时间过程”的特征,艺术家在他的作品中构建了一个脱离其自身而独立存在的一个自足的循环系统。与过往作品中创造的单一“生命体”不同,在他最新的作品里,出现了新的故事结构。作品开始以组为单位,建立了由两个或三个独立个体组成的系统。每件作品是由底座上不同尺寸的陶瓷瓶组成的,像极了具有生命力的一家人。而近距离观看时,观众会发现这些陶瓷瓶并不是独立的,它们互相连通,是紧密联系在一起的整体。去年刚刚成为父亲的欧鸣第一次强烈感觉到自己的生命和世界上另一个生命之间的连结。这让他开始意识到生命并非只是一个个独立的个体,而是一种延续性的存在。
本次展览的主题《重复,等待》暗示了欧鸣目前的工作状态。在过去十多年里,石膏是他唯一的创作媒介。上一个系列《埃施》是欧鸣第一次开始运用到陶瓷。与石膏不同,陶瓷的制作从一团泥土开始,经过拉坯、修坯、上釉到最后的进窑烧制成型,一道道繁复的制作工序叠加成一段段冗长的创作周期。伴随着巨大的不确定性,唯有一遍又一遍地重复才能让最终的成品更接近于艺术家理想的效果。在这个过程里,重复和等待充满了艺术家工作中的日常片段。等待给欧鸣的工作提供了大段的留白,让他在创作的间隙,开始更清晰地理解自己的动机和欲望,期望到达自己理想中的目的地,唯有通过等待。
在新作品里艺术家的个人痕迹似乎消失了。石膏的部分并没有太多的手工痕迹,表面是非常光滑的状态。受到了近两年大量制作陶瓷经历的影响,欧鸣改变了一如既往的手工制作石膏的方法,转而借鉴了陶瓷制作工艺中拉坯成型的技巧。这与原先他制作石膏的方式殊途同归,利用一个中心和重力来打造石膏的形态,面对材料,欧鸣的态度依旧:“我跟着它走,尽可能的跟着它走。因为我发现没有‘我',或者说我是无法用我的意志来呈现的。它(材料)不归我管,我的呈现是上帝的事情”。
近些年的工作和生命体验让欧鸣开始反思雕塑创作上的固有观念:一个纯粹独特的个体真的存在吗?他对此开始产生怀疑。所谓的自己和另一个人,甚至是另一个物其实是一样的,具有超出个人意识、认识之外的共同性。当“我”被抹去后,留下的又是什么呢?

Studio Gallery is honored to hold "Repeat, Expect," the fourth major solo exhibition of artist Ou Ming on November 6, 2022. In this exhibition, Ou Ming will present his new thinking on sculpture and life in the past two years.
In the past few years, Ou Ming has been trying to use plaster, water (color), and ceramics to create an ever-changing organic entity with the characteristics of a "time process." A self-sufficient circulatory system that exists independently of itself has been built in his works. Different from the single "life" created, a new story structure has emerged in his latest work. The sculpture begins in groups, establishing systems of two or three independent individuals. Each piece is composed of ceramic bottles of different sizes on the base, like a family. When viewed at close range, the audience will realize these ceramic bottles are interconnected, a closely linked whole. Ou Ming felt a strong connection between his own life and another life in the world after becoming a father last year, which made him realize that life is not just an independent individual but a continuous existence.
The theme of this exhibition, "Repeat, Expect," hints at Ou Ming's current working state. For over a decade, plaster has been his only medium. The last series, "Esch," was the first time Ou Ming started to use ceramics. Different from plaster, the production of ceramics starts from a mass of mud and goes through drawing, repairing, glazing, and finally, kiln firing. The complicated production processes are superimposed into a lengthy creative cycle. With great uncertainty, only repetition could bring the final product closer to the artist's ideal effect. In the process, repetition and waiting are filled with the artist's everyday fragments. Waiting provided Ou Ming's work with a lot of blank space, allowing him to understand his motivations and desires more clearly during the creation interval, expecting him to reach his ideal destination only through waiting.
The personal traces of the artist start to disappear in the new works. The plaster part does not contain many handmade marks, and the surface is very smooth. Influenced by the artist's extensive experience in making ceramics over the past two years, Ou Ming changed the handmade gypsum method and turned to draw blanks in the ceramics production process, using the center and gravity to create the shape of the sculpture. Ou Ming's attitude toward the material remained the same: "I follow it as much as possible. Because I found that there is no "I, "or I can't use my will to present it. It (material) is not under my control cause that's God's business."
In recent years Ou Ming began to reflect on the inherent concept of sculpture creation: Does a pure and unique individual exist? He began to doubt. The so-called self and another person, or even another, have a commonality beyond personal consciousness and knowledge. What is left when "I" is erased?

工作室画廊2016初成立于上海。作为上海最早支持国际艺术家驻留项目的商业画廊。目前经营着两处实体空间,画廊空间专注于艺术家的工作呈现与推广;工作室空间作为画廊空间的学术引擎,聚焦于非营利性的艺术项目与研究记录。

Established in Shanghai in early 2016, Studio Gallery operates two physical spaces. The gallery space focuses on the presentation and promotion of artists' work; the studio space, as the academic engine of the gallery, focuses on non-profit art research and documentation. As the first Shanghai Gallery to host a residency, we thrive on connecting the Chinese Contemporary art scene internationally.
Studio Gallery is not a gallery space + studio space in a surface sense; it is a reconstruction of the art production and consumption mechanism. Through in-depth observation of the artist's work status, we will explore the true motives of his artistic creation and strive to assist the artist in transforming the value generated in work into consensus.
Since its establishment, in addition to holding professional exhibitions, Studio Gallery has also launched several topical art projects: “Artist Talk", based on the record of the artist's work process; “Open Studio", based on the work report of the artist's residency; based on the artist's creation "Art Scene" and “Critique Room" for communication and discussion.
