Editor's Note

Singing is a powerful way to convey our feelings. Singing together creates a sense of belonging and performing a song can help us discover our true selves.

On March 25, 2023, after intense rehearsals, 23 unique choirs performed their songs at the music hall, taking the audience on a splendid voyage across the ocean of music. Then nine outstanding choirs were singled out to participate in the final competition on March 26. Let's take a look at their amazing performances.

The Champion

School of Economics and Business Administration stunned the audience with the song The New World. Their eloquent singing and perfect coordination created a heated atmosphere in the concert hall, making us proud of our country and people.

The College of Physical Science and Technology took us back to the age of bloody battles filled with the smoke of war through the song Pursuing. As the words sing, "Pursuing the unrepentant loyalty that will always belong to us." Their sincerity and true emotions flowed out of their singing naturally, and the audience deeply resonated with their performance.

Accompanied by the crisp and powerful beat of the African drum, School of Fine Arts sang the song I Love You China with deep affection for our country. Their angelic voices had a healing quality, and the audience was absorbed in the climax of the music.

The romantic and gentle chanting of School of Mathematics and Statistics brought us the amazing and hazy scene of what depicted in the Book of Songs by the song Beyond the Stream. Their voices blended marvelously, as if the whole chorus had become a melancholy man gazing at an elegant woman alongside a stream.

The lively and cheerful Dance of Youth, interpreted by School of History and Culture, aroused the emotions of the audience. This song is adapted from folk songs of Xinjiang and has a very exotic style, which the chorus performed very well.

National Research Center of Cultural Industries brought us a very bright and upbeat song called Tong Tong Kui. Through their performance, we could feel Tujia people's open-minded, optimistic and industrious temperament and their love for life.

Third Prices

College of Chemistry sang Flag of Honor with booming and trained voices. The perfect deal of emotion, speed and volume highlighted the dark color of this song and delivered the resolution to fight against the enemy.

School of Marxism also chose the song: Dance of Youth. The magic notes of this song jumped out of their mouths, danced around every corner of the concert hall and stroke the heartstrings of the audience.

The audience also enjoyed a lot from the wonderful interpretation of Flowers in May by School of Chinese Language and Literature of CCNU. The simple and gentle melody, together with the devout and sincere emotion flowing in their voices expressed the deep respect for the national heroes.

With the melodious songs of the Tiankong choir, our choral journey came to an end. Although not all the choirs had the chance to perform in the final competition, our efforts and endeavors were widely recognized. Regardless of the outcome, the competition's significance lies in the process: honing our choral skills, collaborating with each other, becoming one family, and confirming our beliefs in building a better choir.
