WELL MIND | Are You Ready For 2021?

Rebecca Archer WellWomen 2021-01-19

Happy New Year beauties.

The sun has dawned on this beautiful new day and with it, a new year, a new hope.

We’ve turned the page and we are onto a new chapter – 2021. What will this year hold for us?

Last New Year, I set a couple of resolutions – to lose weight and to buy a house.

I didn't achieve either.

Turns out these were not things I needed in 2020. Instead, I gained something far greater, with infinitely more value.

I learned to motivate myself from self-compassion and connection and love, instead of pressure and beating myself up.

This year I learned to drop the shame cycle.

I learned to make good decisions every day to take care of me – my body, my heart, my mind.

I learned how focusing on baby steps that I can take TODAY will get me further along the road towards my dreams.

I learned to love myself.

I learned that I am stronger than I think.

Maybe I didn’t accomplish the goals I had at the beginning of 2020, but in some ways, I achieved so much more. And I know that many of you did as well.

As we walk into the next chapter of our lives, 2021, it’s important to understand that the story you tell about yourself and 2020, will stay with you and determine your future.

What is your story of 2020?

Are you focusing on the negatives, all the things that went wrong? Have you cast yourself as the victim? Or have you written yourself into your story as a hero? You are resilient. Look at what you have achieved, focus on what you have accomplished. You are stronger than you think. You are not the same person as you were this time last year. We can be proud of ourselves.

We have just wrapped up our WellWomen 30 Day Gratitude Challenge. We did this challenge because we decided, together, that the story we want to write about our 2020 would be one about positivity, growth, overcoming adversity, accomplishment and finding beauty in the moment. It's the same stuff we want to take into this new year.

2021 is here, and whatever happens, remember that ‘We can do hard things’.

And we can do them together.
