Untitled consists of rectangular hollow metal boxes, each divided into two squares in the middle by the artist, with a purple acrylic plate placed on one side. The boxes are suspended at even intervals from the vertical walls, in a form known as the “stack”: one of Judd's signature artistic languages. Mounted directly on the wall or ground, the sculpture is integrated into the space, distorting the boundary between object and viewer. Coloured acrylic panels embedded in the sculpture contrast with the texture of the metal, reflecting the spectral beauty and visually activating the space around the stack. Maintaining that art is independent of reality, Donald Judd stands as one emissary of Western post-war art history. Judd once wrote, "The chief advantage of geometric shapes is that they are not organic, like art itself. This simple geometric form takes the work away from symbolism and thus becomes an object for viewing and engaging.
