Automatic Visa Extension Offered for Foreigners

Foreigners in China whose visas expire during the control & prevention of the pandemic can have their stay period automatically extended by two months, according to the National Immigration Administration (NIA) on Sunday.

Liu Haitao, director of the Frontier Inspection and Management Department of the State Migration Administration, said Sunday Mar 1 at the joint prevention and joint control conference of the State Council that during the epidemic prevention and control period, the period of stay of foreigners in China can be automatically extended for two months, and no application procedure is required during the extension period. Expats can stay in China legally or leave the country normally.

In addition, foreigners engaged in medical aid, drug development and academic exchanges, local public security exit and entry management departments provide 24-hour expedited visa application services, Liu said.

To reduce people's mobility and cut the risk of cross infection, online services is also provided.

此外，刘海涛表示，因为有一些特殊的抗疫防疫工作，对于参与医疗救助、药品开发、学术交流等防疫抗疫工作的中外人士，各地的公安出入境管理部门提供24小时的加急办证服务。对来华参加防疫抗疫交流合作或者从事重要的商贸和科研活动的外国人，因急事来华来不及事先办妥签证的，可以到入境口岸申办口岸签证。
