Too Hot to Wear a Mask?
▲From May 3rd, more regions will experience a temperature of 32+ degrees celsius
Many cities in China have already been declared as low-risk areas, life is gradually returning to normal and summer heat is raging. But as temperature goes up, it becomes uncomfortable to wear a mask. With that in mind, many people have had this question: Since China is relatively safe now, can we take off the masks?
The gif above shows how masks are still important for protecting yourself and others. This footage was taken on May 1st in the Taishan Scenic Area, as you can see, it is fully packed with people lining up to climb Mount Tai. If this gif is not an answer enough, we will turn to Professor Zhong Nanshan who answered this question recently during an interview with People's Daily.
In short his answer was: It is not the time to remove masks!
He pointed out that the situation at home and abroad is now very different. China has entered the second stage of the epidemic thanks to its very decisive measures. Other major countries are still in the first stage of the outbreak and infection numbers are still climbing upwards. This means that the probability of person-to-person transmission is very high. Wearing a mask is still a very important means of self-protection, and it is too early to propose not to wear it. However, in areas where the epidemic is not serious, places with few people or empty places, masks are not necessary.
Luan Rongsheng, professor of epidemiology at the Sichuan University, West China School of Public Health, said that people must wear masks in confined spaces, such as subways and trains, crowded areas such as hospitals, schools and others, and people who need to be in contact with people frequently or for a long time need to wear masks.
