Driver runs red light three times to save a baby

Mr. Ai is an online car hailing service driver in Dongguan, Guangdong Province. A few days ago he received an order from a family of three, they were heading to a hospital but their child's situation became severe as soon as they got on his car. Seeing this they asked Mr. Ai to take them to a nearby hospital, to make sure that the child get medical attention as fast as possible, Mr. Ai drove very fast and ran three red lights on his way to the hospital. With this he have to be fined 600 RMB and 18 points deducted from his driving licence, which means that his driving licence will be useless and he most probably will need a new driving licence.
Concidering that whatever he did was a good deed, he explained to the police but they insisted that they needed proof from the family he carried and relevant hospital certificates to make the final decision. To his surprise, the family he carried refused to help him, saying that they had nothing to do with him running the red light.
Mr. Ai recalled: "The family brought a baby. Less than a minute after getting on the car, the baby vomited and lost consciousness. His parents decided to change their destination to the nearest hospital. I immediately turned around and went to the hospital. I had several traffic violations along the way, but I forgot which ones specifically."
Because of the emergency at that time, Mr. Ai ran several red lights all the way. After making sure that the baby is on the right hands, Mr. Ai contacted the local traffic police immediately. The traffic police said that Mr. AI needed to provide relevant hospital certificates and proof to deal with his violation of the regulations. Therefore, Mr. AI immediately contacted the family members of the sick baby at that time, but they didn't answer the call and they also refused to cooperate with him.
Feeling so helpless on the face of the family's apathy torwards his situation, he decided to turn to the police for help. Chen Yongguang, leader of the service squadron of the traffic police brigade of the Changping branch of Dongguan Public Security Bureau, said: "driver Ai ran three red lights at that time, 18 points were deducted, 6 points for each red light, and a fine of 600 yuan was imposed. He needed to apply for his driver's license again. As an online car Hailing driver, this punishment has a great impact on his life. We got public videos and hospital records, and we found that what he said was all true."
The local police later announced that they had cancelled the punishment for the driver.
"It is proved that he did run the red light to save the child, proof from the hospital management and family is just one of the evidences. We checked out the surveillance and found that the driver really rushed into the hospital with the baby in his arms, this can also be used to prove what he said."
Mr. Ai later said that although he could not understand the attitude of the patient's family members, he did not regret doing so: "although I feel the family members are cold and indifferent, my heart is still warm. I rescued a child and sent him to the hospital. I will do the same in the future."
The travel app platform that Mr. Ai is working on told reporters that it had paid attention to the driver's actions and it has verified that the order was placed on its platform. The platform added that it will reward him for bravery to encourage his positive energy and behavior.
