6 Arrested for Comments on Weibo and WeChat

Six people have been detained after police confirmed that they posted slandering statements about soldiers who died during a border clash last june. Apart from these six, police are pursuing another netizen who is now abroad for the same offense.


At about 19:00 on February 21, Shapingba District Police received a report that netizen "@tscb8" made slandering statements about the heroic officers and soldiers on Weibo's comment section. 


They immediately launched an investigation and after verification, they were able to identify the suspect as Wang (male, 19 years old) from Shapingba District, Chongqing, who is living abroad since July 2019. They have issued an arrest warrant on him and are currently pursuing him online.



On February 22, a spokesman for Qinhuangdao public security network issued a notice that says:


At about 14:00 on February 21, Qinhuangdao Public Security Bureau received a report from Sina Weibo netizens, saying that a netizen had published defamation statements against the heroic officers and soldiers guarding the border. 


After receiving the report, Qinhuangdao Public Security Bureau immediately organized the police to carry out an investigation. On the afternoon of February 21, the suspect Tang (male, 20 years old) was arrested. Tang confessed to the charges and expressed that he deeply regret. Tang has been put under administrative detention for 15 days.


On the same day, Nanming branch of Guiyang Public Security Bureau also issued a notice:


At about 8:00 a.m. on February 21, 2021, online police of Nanming Public Security Bureau found that some netizen had slandered and insulted the heroic border officers and soldiers on his WeChat Moments. In response, Nanming public security quickly launched an investigation. 


At about 10 a.m. that day, the netizen (male, 30 years old, from Guiyang) was found in a house in huaguoyuan, Nanming District. He was then put under a 13 days administrative detention.


At about 12:00 on February 21, police in Binhai, Maoming, received report from netizens that someone published insulting and slandering remarks about border soldiers in a wechat group. 


The police quickly launched an investigation and seized the suspect Tian moulun (male, 40 years old) at about 22:00 on the same day. He has been detained by Binhai New Area Branch of Maoming Public Security Bureau in accordance with the law.


Still, on the same day, the Public Security Bureau of Mianyang City, Sichuan Province issued a notice:


At about 16:00 on February 20, our bureau received a report that netizen "知名Zed" published derogatory remarks about border soldiers on Weibo comment area. Police were organized immediately to carry out an investigation. 


At about 9:00 on February 21, netizen Yang (male, 25 years old, from Fucheng District, Mianyang) voluntarily surrendered himself to Yuantong police station of Chengbei Branch of the Municipal Public Security Bureau under the pressure of the public security organs, and confessed to the fact that he had made illegal remarks. At present, he have been imposed to a 7 days administrative detention.


Beijing PSB also posted a notice that people reported to the police about a netizen who published a number of insulting and slandering remarks in the WeChat group, which caused strong dissatisfaction among members of the group. 


In this regard, police quickly launched an investigation and at about 21:00 on the same day, netizen Chen Mou Qiang (male, 28 years old) was found. He confessed to the fact that he made illegal remarks to vent frustrations. He was detained by Haidian public security bureau for the crime of provocation and trouble making, and the case is still under investigation.


On February 19, police in Nanjing received a report that a netizen "辣笔小球" published illegal remarks on Weibo that maliciously distorted the truth, slandered and belittled five heroic officers and soldiers, causing extremely bad social impact. 


Police arrested the suspect Qiu (male, 38 years old, Nanjing native). Qiu confessed to the illegal act saying he did so to attract the attention of netizens. At present, Nanjing police have detained Qiu for the crime of provocation.
