China's National Radio and TV Regulator has banned effeminate men on television and called for broadcasters on Thursday to promote masculine role models and enforce morality.

Enterprises and the public are also urged to promote a strong China and a healthier society.

The measures were sketched out in an eight-point plan by the National Radio and Television Regulator. It called for “further regulation of arts and entertainment shows and related personnel.”

Broadcasters must "resolutely put an end to sissy men and other abnormal esthetics", the  National Radio and TV Regulator said, using a derogatory slang term to describe effeminate men - "Niangpao", or literally "girly gun"

The regulator also called for Chinese media to spread more positive values, and for trade associations in the television and internet entertainment sectors to provide more training and self-discipline.

This reflects official concern that Chinese pop stars, influenced by the sleek, fashionable look of some South Korean and Japanese singers and actors, are failing to encourage China's young men to be masculine enough.

A billboard of Jungkook in Gujranwala, Pakistan, was taken down by authorities for "promoting homosexuality."

Concerns about these polished pop stars' influence has also been reflected in other countries such as Pakistan.

Some fans of the popular boy band in Pakistan decided to commission a giant billboard for a BTS member Jungkook to celebrate his birthday.

Unfortunately, the billboard was quickly taken down by authorities who cited "promoting homosexuality" as the reason for the removal of the billboard.

"We received a lot of complaints from people. There was so much commotion," assembly candidate Furqan Aziz Butt told VICE World News.

"There are young people in this city. This group has a negative influence on them and encourages them to behave in wrong activities. They promote homosexuality."

Polished male celebs aren't the only ones affected by the new regulations, the state TV regulator has also warned against featuring "vulgar internet celebrities" and admiration of wealth and celebrity.

Performers who "violate public order" or who have "lost morality" will be banned.

TV Programs should "vigorously promote excellent Chinese traditional culture, revolutionary culture and advanced socialist culture" instead.

Another rule that came into effect on Wednesday limit anyone under the age of 18 to playing online games for only 3 hours a week and prohibit playing games in school as well as on school days.

Broadcasters were directed to avoid performers who “violate public order” or have “lost morality,” the regulator said. Programs about the children of celebrities are also banned.

On Saturday, microblog platform Weibo suspended thousands of accounts for fan clubs and entertainment news.

The country's internet watchdog, the Cyberspace Administration of China, will deploy greater controls over the algorithms used by tech firms to personalize and recommend content.

Under the draft regulations, algorithms cannot be used in ways that may cause addictive behaviors in users, or induce them to spend excessively.
