With a massive outage on late Monday, Facebook, Instagram & Whatsapp users worldwide struggled to get connected through the giant apps & websites.

However, currently, it is being reported by several tech news sites and on Twitter that the personal information of over 1.5 billion users is being sold on the dark web.

A Screenshot shared by accounts on Twitter shows an alleged posting for the sale of personal data of 1.5 billion Facebook users on the dark web, which can only be reached by a special tool known as Tor and is not indexed by surface web search engines such as Google.

The screenshot supposedly taken from a popular dark web forum showS a post on the forum that says a database holding more than 1.5 billion users’ information is for sale.

The database was “scraped this year and emails and phone numbers are included as well,” the post also reads. Another popular post on social media was another screenshot, this time showing that the domain for Facebook is apparently on sale.

The company said it was “aware that some people are having trouble accessing Facebook app” and it was working on restoring access.

As Facebook-owned social media companies experienced a shutdown, the Twittersphere did not waste time in recommending alternatives. High up in the list is Telegram, which is seen as an alternative to WhatsApp.

Apple’s iMessenger was another messaging tool, which was recommended by many Twitter users, as people were looking for alternatives to stay connected.

On the side employees from Facebook told Media that they believed the outage was caused by an internal system bug.

"We want to make clear at this time we believe the root cause of this outage was a faulty configuration change," Facebook said in the blog.

The Facebook outage is the largest ever tracked by web monitoring group Downdetector.

This chart shows a view of problem reports submitted in the past 24 hours compared to the typical volume of reports by time of day. It is common for some problems to be reported throughout the day.

Downdetector only reports an incident when the number of problem reports is significantly higher than the typical volume for that time of day. Visit the Downdetector Methodology page to learn more about how Downdetector collects status information and detects problems.

This Massive Facbook and other related Apps outage directly impacted on Mark Zuckerberg’s personal wealth. Reportedly it has fallen by more than $6 billion in a few hours, knocking him down a notch on the list of the world’s richest people.

The stock slide on Monday sent Zuckerberg’s worth down to $121.6 billion, dropping him below Bill Gates to No. 5 on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
