On November 1, Dr. Zhang Huaping, an associate professor of Beijing University of technology, published a post on his verified Weibo account reporting someone called Chen, a graduate from another university in Hunan, who had copied his student's thesis.
"After three months of review, the degree evaluation committee of their university verified the complaints [I made] and decided to revoke Mr. Chen's Master's degree and cancelled his mentor's qualifications." He wrote on a viral post on Weibo.
On his post, Dr. Zhang said his student passed the defense in January 2016 and the school shared the thesis with an information sharing platform.
But recently, his student, surnamed Zhao, found another paper uploaded on the same platform with the same title and contents.

The plagiarized paper was published in December 2016. Apart from the slight differences in acknowledgements and keywords, the full text is copied word by word and plagiarized from the format to contents (known as global plagiarism).
From the profile information, Chen finished a masters degree from one of the top universities in Hunan. On his paper's acknowledgement, he said the research paper was completed under careful guidance of his mentor surnamed Tang.
