A couple in Yichun city, Jiangxi province, accidentally died in a house they were renting, leaving behind eight young children, the youngest being only nine months old.

Ms. Peng, a relative of the couple, told reporters that the husband was only 31 years old while the wife was clocking in at 34. The two gave birth to eight children in total. The eldest 4 are all daughters, the fifth is a deaf son, the sixth and seventh are twin daughters, and the eighth is a 9-month-old son.
Ms. Peng and the children's grandmother were peddling goods in the streets when they received news of the death of the couple. She said the preliminary forensic report said the couple died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
She added that they were told if the family wanted to further investigate the cause of death, then the couple's bodies will have to undergo dissection by the forensics, but the family saw no reason to carry out further investigation and refused.
Ms. Peng said that the eight children are currently being taken care of by their uncles and aunts.
On the evening of December 7, the town's government officials told reporters that they are aware of the incident and will come up with relevant measures to help the family.
Later, relevant staff told reporters that the district government officials visited the family and understood their situation. They gave 20,000 yuan to the children's grandmother and arranged for a subsidy of 1,200 yuan per month to the children until they reach the age of 18.
