     早在11世纪，商船就开始从不莱梅起航，作为一个世界性的贸易城市，这里结合了传统与创新。不莱梅州包括自由汉萨市不莱梅和港口城市不来梅哈芬港，作为德国西北部的贸易、高科技和物流中心，不莱梅拥有欧洲第三大集装箱码头，其中许多货物是在不莱梅加工并转运的；不莱梅也是德国第五大工业基地，这里集中了许多科学机构。
