Humans of China│

The beginning of the story

I’ve been travelling around China

 since 2014

I’ve been to many cities, towns and villages

and met amazing people along the way

Then I had an idea to listen

and record what people tell me

Everyone has a story

no matter how big or small

 and here are some stories

that I'd like to share with you from

the humans in China

I often visit the nursing home as a volunteer. I was watching the old people one day and thought about myself and my future. I discovered that our lives seemed to be controlled by others and I became afraid. I was afraid that I didn’t have the power to choose the life I really wanted.

I resigned from my job and decided to travel for around three months by myself. I went to Sichuan, Yunnan, Tibet and many other places.

After I came back I decided I wanted to travel somewhere further afield so I bought a plane ticket and headed to West Africa. I wanted to find simple people, a simple life and simple emotions and there I really found these things. The things I felt were intense.

Whilst travelling I met a child and he didn’t have much. In fact that day he only had two pieces of candy and he gave me one. I taught some children how to paint on the beach and we all had a amazing time together.

In the first few days I was visiting Sierra Leone. The Ebola virus has just begun to spread causing devastation to peoples lives throughout the country.

After coming back to China I wrote my second book called ‘The Whole World Gives Me Courage’ and I organized events to sell the books and photos I took from my trip and then donated the profits to a charity called ‘Doctors Without Boarders’.

I often think to myself "are the people who I shared some magical moments with still alive?"

I hope in the future more young Chinese can open their minds and choose the life they want and not the life that they are expected to live.

I am preparing my third book.
