1)Global Studies (China Studies) –Master Program
Global Studies aims for an integrated, multidisciplinary and cross-cultural learning and research on the processes and effects of globalization, the global or transnational issues such as environmental degradation, food security, epidemic disease, drug trafficking, mass migration, identification, peace, conflict, global trade and economic linkages, and even spirituality. By analyzing global phenomena from economic, social, historical, environmental, cultural, biological, political, and other perspectives, Global Studies attempts to arrive at an understanding of the interrelationships among the world's cultures and civilizations, and to foster a global awareness that is so essential for bridging cultural, geographic, political and linguistic boundaries.
2)International Relations and Diplomacy-Master Program
This is an English-taught program with an excellent body of international faculties and students. Under the umbrella of Institute of Global Studies, there are several key research centers: Center for Turkish Studies, Center for Latin America Studies, Center for South Asia Studies, Center for American Studies, Center for Irish Studies, Center for Global Governance, Center for the History of Global Development, David F. Musto Center for Drug Policy Studies, Institute on Religion and Global Politics, etc. The College of Liberal Arts and College of International Education will be responsible for the students’ academic and daily affairs respectively. While enjoying a global context and perspective, the students will have the privilege to learn the Chinese way of thinking as well as the views from the third world. The students are expected to continue their academic careers or to be diplomats after graduation.
3) International Organizations and Governance-Master Program
This is an English-taught program with an excellent body of international faculties and students. Under the umbrella of Institute of Global Studies, there are several key research centers: Center for Global Governance, Center for the History of Global Development, David F. Musto Center for Drug Policy Studies, Institute on Religion and Global Politics, etc. The students are expected to learn the history and current situation of international organizations, and to promote their role in global governance. In addition to course study and thesis, the students are also encouraged to do internships in relevant organizations. The College of Liberal Arts and College of International Education and will be responsible for the students’ academic and daily affairs respectively.
4)Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies -Master Program
This MA program at Shanghai University provides a broad academic and professional training in all aspects of cultural heritage and museum work, and encourages students to reflect on the concept of cultural heritage and museum. The greatest strength of this course is the way it combines the theory and practice of both cultural heritage and museum-based collections. You will be invited to think about museums and cultural heritage from a global perspective, whilst drawing on the wealth of nationally-recognized institutions across Shanghai, the largest city in China.
