Man Arrested for Seeing Covid-Positive Parents! 男子违规探望新冠肺炎阳性父母被抓

On Tuesday, police in Guangzhou claimed a man was arrested after he visited his parents in Liwan district, both of whom had tested positive. 

The man had sought medical treatment for flu symptoms on Wednesday and Friday last week, but was not quarantined because he had not informed health workers about his visit, according to the police. He later tested positive.

The man had visited a number of locations in Panyu district before being quarantined on Sunday, according to Deputy Police Chief Yang Bingsheng, and anyone who had visited the hotspots had to go into isolation as well.

Police said a man was also arrested for allegedly attacking officers when he was asked to take a swab test. A third man was arrested in a separate incident, accused of scuffling with police as he tried to leave a locked down area. And two men were arrested for “spreading rumours” about the outbreak.

Health authorities have warned residents to comply with mass testing requirements. A spokesman for Guangzhou's Health Commission, Chen Bin, said that everyone who had visited a high-risk area had to get tested at least twice every three days.

“Anyone who doesn’t cooperate with the city’s mass screening efforts will face legal consequences,” she said.

Provincial health authorities said earlier that they were concerned about the latest outbreak because the Delta variant had a high viral load and an average incubation period of 3.2 days, much shorter than other strains.
