耿丹学院外教John:兴趣激发进步,让学习变有趣至关重要

编者按>>

北京工业大学耿丹学院现已与英国、爱尔兰、德国、美国、加拿大、澳大利亚、新西兰、韩国、泰国等31个国家以及港澳台地区的103所院校及学术机构建立了多层次的友好合作与交流关系,合作高校遍布欧洲、美洲、大洋洲、亚洲。可为在校学生提供境外硕士学位课程、双学位课程、学期课程、寒暑期课程、专业实习、国际工作坊等多种境外线上线下优质教育资源,以开拓学生国际视野,提高学生国际竞争力,最终实现让耿丹学子在校四年的素养优质化、视野国际化、成长全面化的人才培养目标。


当前学校通过引进外籍教师,开展教师境外进修,鼓励学生参与各类型的境外学习交流项目,不断推进国际化建设与发展,形成了在地国际化的良好氛围。

Q1What is the traditional culture in Britain?


您觉得英国的传统文化是什么?


Britain, a small island comprising England, Scotland, and Wales, has a diverse culture influenced by its three distinct countries. The Celts arrived around 400 B.C., leaving behind a legacy of art and traditions. The Roman conquered England in 43 C.E. after a long resistance from the Celts. The decline of the Roman Empire led to the Anglo Saxon invasion by the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes. Vikings raided Britain from 493 C.E. and settled in various regions. In 1066, William the Conqueror, a Norman Viking, became the first Norman king of England. The Normans introduced French language and castles. King Henry VIII changed the national religion to the Church of England in the sixteenth century. The English Civil War and conflicts between Catholics and Protestants caused division. England has a rich literary tradition, including legends of King Arthur and Robin Hood, works by Chaucer and Shakespeare, and the first English novel, Robinson Crusoe. Tea drinking is a distinct British practice, and good manners are highly valued.

Q2. How do people usually spend their weekends or leisure time in the UK?

Leisure activities in Britain vary by social status. The aristocracy enjoys hunting, shooting, and fishing. They attend private events and clubs. The wealthy middle class plays tennis, squash, and golf. They attend parties, upscale restaurants, bars. Both groups enjoy theater, opera, and ballet.

Common people love soccer and follow their teams. They gather at pubs to watch games, drink, and socialize. Music concerts and festivals are popular too. Pubs serve as social hubs for friends to chat and relax, some with live entertainment. After the pub, people may continue socializing, dancing, and drinking at nightclubs until early morning. These activities are popular on weekends, but not for everyone.


英国的休闲活动因社会阶层而异。贵族们喜欢打猎、射击和钓鱼。他们参加私人活动和俱乐部。富裕的中产阶级打网球、壁球和高尔夫球。他们参加聚会、去高档餐厅、酒吧。这两个群体都喜欢戏剧、歌剧和芭蕾舞。

Q3.How do students learn in England?

Learning is universal. Students choose subjects they enjoy and that align with their future plans.Their interest and desire to succeed drive their learning. Technology, like the internet and smartphones, aids learning by providing a vast knowledge source. Making learning interesting is crucial as interest sparks progress, while a lack of interest hinders it.


学习是普遍的。学生选择他们喜欢的科目,并与他们的未来计划相一致。他们的兴趣和对成功的渴望推动着他们去学习。科技,如互联网和智能手机,通过提供大量的知识来源来帮助学习。让学习变得有趣是至关重要的,因为兴趣会激发进步,而缺乏兴趣则会阻碍进步。


Q4.What do you think is the difference between British and Chinese education?


你认为英国和中国的教育有什么不同?


In England, there is a greater emphasis on learner autonomy.Students are expected to take responsibility for their own learning. University lecturers provide reading lists and deliver lectures to enhance understanding and provide fresh insights. While lecturers are available for questions, most learning occurs outside the lecture room. Assignments are given to assess students' comprehension and their ability to contribute their own ideas. This highlights the main difference in England's approach.


在英国,更强调学习者的自主性同学们应该对自己的学习负责。大学讲师提供阅读书目和讲课,以增进理解和提供新的见解。虽然讲师可以回答问题,但大多数学业都是在课堂之外进行的。布置作业是为了评估学生的理解力和提出自己想法的能力。这凸显了英格兰的主要不同之处。
