Video Mini Lesson: Ask Someone's Age.

Hutong School HutongSchoolBeijing 2020-10-01

We are happy to present the first of our video Mini Lessons with our Head Teacher Lina. We hope that during this time, if you are still not back to Beijing or have some uncertainty, you can still learn some new things quickly and continue to develop your Chinese skills. If you're already back to the books, you can enjoy learning something new in addition to already capitalizing this time to boost your Chinese!

Today we discuss asking someone’s age. How you address people matters a lot in China, particularly if you are speaking with someone your senior. We all learn some basic ways to ask someone’s age when we start to learn Mandarin but how does it differ depending on who you are speaking to? Watch above and find out!

Lesson notes

When speaking to children.

你几岁

Nǐ jǐ suì

When speaking with friends and acquaintances.

你多大

When speaking with elderly people.

or..

您今年多大年纪?

Nín jīnnián duōdà niánjì

Thank you for watching and stay tuned for more.
