Mt. Otana is located in Heishui County, only 310km away from Chengdu, making a perfect destination for trekking and photographying.

Unlike other hot destinations, Mt. Otana is an off-beaten-path even for many domestic travelers.

Trekking at Mt. Otana brings you the purest and the most comfortable trekking experience. Being regarded  as the entry-level trekking site, this mountain is quite friendly to average trekkers.

Detailed Itinerary

D1: Chengdu-Heishui Reception Station

We will start the trip in the morning. The pick-up location is at Chadianzi Bus Terminal Metrao Station Exit C. About 6 hours' drive via Dujiangyan and Wenchuan, we will reach today's destination - Bajiazhai Village. Upon arrival, our local trekking leader will welcome you with Hada. In the afternoon, you can go around or do the fram work with local villagers (harvest, plow, etc. depending on different seasons). Tonight we  are going to stay in our local trekking leader's Tibetan home (mutiple beds room) and enjoy the traditional Tibetan food.

D2: Heishui Reception Station-Niupengzi Base Camp-Lake-Base Camp

After breakfast, we will start today's trekking. Firstly e will drive from Heishui Reception Station to the Niupengzi Base Camp and then trek to the lake upon the mountain. The total trekking distance is about 12km and takes abuot 5-6h depending on body condition. The trekking route combines paved/mud road and primary forests. We will come across creeks, mountains, cattles, some wild animals and then to the lake. It's the training session for tomorrow's summit. Tonight we will stay the night at Niupengzi Base Camp (wood guesthouse, mutiple sharing beds).

D3: Niupengzi Base Camp-Summit-Heishui Reception Station

Today we will start early at about 4:30am and then after a brief breakfast, we will start the trekking. The trekking is consist of 3 parts. The 1st session is a steep slope (about 50°) on the back of the mountain. The 2nd session is in the mountain areas with gentle slopes which you can enjoy a clear view of the holy mountains. The 3rd session is climbing part with stone piles. It's a little bit stimulating and also exciting but still we need to be quite cautious. The trekking distance is about 18KM and we will need to head down at latest 13:00pm even if we cannot make it to the summit. Drive back to Heishui Reception Station to take rest and enjoy the dinner.

D4: Heishui Reception Station-Chengdu

After breakfast, we will head back to Chengdu at about 09:00 am. Tour ends. Enjoy the rest day on your own.
