The background is about a group of peculiar children who live in the secret home. The main character is Jacob, a 16-year-old American teenager, who occasionally found his grandfather’s stories about surviving as a Jew during World War II, running from man-eating monsters, and living with peculiar children in a secret home guarded by "a wise old bird". As Jacob grows older, he begins to explore the magic world in his grandfather’s story and the story develops with Jacob’s exploration.
I just opened half and stopped when I heard her. The living room suddenly became quiet, and everyone seemed to be holding their breath, looking at Aunt Susie as if she were not supposed to mention grandpa on this occasion. In their opinion, grandpa's name can already be equated with the devil. His father nervously clench his teeth, and his drunk mother continues to clinch a toast with others.
I was attracted by the series of books after I saw the film of the same name which is directed by Tim Burton. The film is awesome enough, but after I read the book, I would say that the book’s “brain hole” is even bigger. If you read the book, you would find that some peculiar children’ s ability is different from the film’ s, so only watching the film is not enough to feel the point of the book.
