In an announcement clarifying frequently asked questions on visa applications to China, the Commissioner states that all foreigners in the Macau SAR, who have been inoculated with vaccines against COVID-19 recognized by the Macau Health Bureau and with valid certificates of vaccination issued by local health authorities will be able to apply for all categories of visas to the rest of China.
Previously only foreigners with permanent and non-permanent residence permits inoculated with a BioNTech vaccine were eligible to apply to Chinese visas, with non-resident work permit holders, known as blue cards, only allowed to apply if they have had received the inactivated Sinopharm vaccine.
Currently, due to labour regulations enforced last year non-residence work permit holders can only apply to new labour contracts after re-entering Macau.
At the moment, that route is only possible either via Hong Kong or the rest of China, with several foreign non-resident workers resorting to applying for tourist visas to abide by the new requirements.
