From my perspective, it takes lots of courage to express views which are rather different from those of my friends. For starters, people, especially teenagers usually want to be accepted by a group of people they like. As a result, sometimes they tend to follow group consensus even though it doesn’t consist with their true opinion, otherwise they risk not being regarded as a team-player or even get elbowed out of the group. That’s why I believe it takes guts to voice difference in front of friends. In contrast, most teachers encourage students to express their ideas or initiate questions in class, which shows that they’re really paying attention; moreover, it’s not a shame to admit our mistakes since you know, to error is human, and no one will judge us because of this.

I think it’s better to choose a major after studying in the university for a year or two since in this way, we could make a more informed decision. For example, I chose to major in International trade and economics when I was a freshman only because I got attracted to the word “international” and thought that this major was quite popular; unfortunately, it turned out to be a rush decision as I later realized that I was not good with numbers and frankly speaking, I wasn’t interested in economics at all. Had I waited a little while, I mean, after I’d taken some courses, I wouldn’t have got stuck with something I dislike. Besides, university offers a myriad of courses, some of which are totally new to the freshmen. I think it’s a good idea to get familiar with their choices before making the final decision concerning further study.
